5'8 160lbs - Advanced I bought these (2024 version) based on reviews which stated it was a good ski for lighter skiers who were looking for something to take into the bumps and trees. After 4 days of skiing bumps and trees in Tremblant I can say that these are a fantastic option. You can also use these on groomers and are very serviceable - which is another feature I wanted. If you're skiing 75% in the bumps and trees with 25% on groomers these are a great option for you. If you're looking for 75% groomers you may wish to consider the 89Ti to stiffen things up a bit. My "main" skis are the K2 Disruption MTI so I was not at all concerned with having a carving ski to go fast and hard with. The Mindbender 90C does get a little floppy at high speed - but it's not what they are meant for. Looking forward to getting a few seasons of fun on these sticks!

I understand the floppiness at speed, especially since they top out at 178 cm these days and that kind of eliminates larger or more aggressive skiers who need a longer ski. But you are correct, stability at speed is not what these skis are built for!

Considering this ski or the blackcrows Captis ski. I’m an intermediate-light advanced skier and ski predominantly east coast with a few west coast trips baked in each year. I like all mountain skiing without any park. Some moguls and trees, a little off piste and groomed. I can’t decide!

If you're not looking for any type of park, I think the K2 has more upside. The directional shape carves really well and the lighter use of carbon in this ski makes it more mobile and amenable to shorter and quicker turns. It's an awesome choice for mixing all-mountain characteristics at a light and accessible weight.

@@SkiEssentials great info. I am surprised as I have heard from many blackcrows might be the more durable/capable option! How about compared to the elan ripstick 88s? These three have kind of been my struggle to decide. I am willing to spend the extra money for the Captis if they’re superior..

@@dross1880 I do think they'll hold up better than the K2 and likely the Elan. The only durability knock against the Ripstick is that they're left/right specific so you always have the same ski on the same foot, and that can lead to asymmetric wear. If you're not terribly concerned about that, then the Elan skis very energetically and is one of my favorite 88's out there.

@@SkiEssentials awesome. Anything to add about the Captis? You have great deals on binding+ski combos so I’ll be purchasing from your site! I’ll actually be at Stowe in 2-3 weeks.

@@dross1880 I've said it a few times before, but as an owner of an Atomic Bent 90, I'd trade it pretty quickly for the Captis at 90 due to the added spring, grip, and pop. I've really enjoyed that ski in the past and it's one of the few nice twin tips at 90 mm underfoot that comes in a mid-180 so big skiers like me can enjoy it!

Hello skiessencials team, I am very interested in the ski, so that as an advanced skier I can get some off-piste adventures from time to time, but I am a bit at a loss as to the right length. I weigh 160 lbs and have a height of 6'0. I hope you can help me. Keep up the good work, your content is great!

Hello! Do you think there's a reasonable difference between those and the Rossignol Experience Basalt 86? Or both of them are for the same kind of skier and snow conditions? Thanks very much!
@SkiEssentials

The K2 is a bit more rockered and flexible in the shovel. That makes them a bit more amenable to softer snow and versatile conditions. The Rossignol feels more composed in a carved turn on smoother snow. I'd rather ski the K2 off-trail and the Rossignol on.

Could you compare this ski to a black crows captis.. main thing I'm looking for is to carve a bit easier..?? Captis seems a bit skiddy I find but still love it..

I skied a Captis again the other day and loved it--such an easy ski to get along with, but I also found I could stand on it and trust the edge up against some pretty firm snow we've had lately. The 90C will carve easier, but I don't necessarily think better. Add the versatility of the Captis, and I'm taking the twin over the directional ski any day.

Should I get these or the Atomic Maverick 86C. I ski Colorado - intermediate/advanced.

The big difference here is the amount of energy and quickness--both of which the Atomic has over the K2. The K2 is smoother and quieter, and while the performance level is about the same, they go about it in slightly different ways. For firmer snow and more mobility, I like the Atomic while the K2 has a softer snow presence that is hard to deny.

I am looking for a new Ski for resorts in europe. I would say i am like 70% on groomers, but whenever snow is good is like to go off piste in powder. I would consider myself advanced to expert skier. My last ski was a twin tip and i still kind of want that as i still try to improve my backwards skiing and small jumps with landing switch. Now i am looking for more of an all mountain setup(90-100 under foot)with maybe a twin tip. I want to ski it on groomers as well and it should not be bad at carving. After my research i am hovering between: Bent 100, Arv 94, k2 poacher, k2 mindender 99ti and k2 mindbender 96c. For the skis on the lower 90s i am not sure if they will serve me well in powder. What do you think and what are your thoughts? I am around 180cm and around 75kg. Thanks in advance, love your content

Perhaps simplistic, but the closer you get to 100, the better these skis will float, so if you are looking for a mix of groomer performance and soft snow acumen, it's okay to stick to the mid to upper 90's as there's a lot of great options here. Not on your list, but check out the Nordica Unleashed 98. Great carving twin tip with soft snow potential. We did a thing on it last year--check it out: kzitem.info/news/bejne/16tnyoOkrmuprII

@@SkiEssentialsI have now narrowed it down to Blade optic 96 (as last years model is 50%off), Poacher, ARV 94 and considering your advice of Nordica unleashed 98. Probably the 98 would be the best carver right? What would you say is the best one for shorter turns and the one that can do a carve, float decently well but is also capabale of a more playful style and hitting side jumps? And how would you compare the Poacher and the ARV 94? Which one would see more all mountain suitable and which one more or only park? I am not plannig to mount true center, probably factory recommended or +2cm.

@@paulmassmann1902 I'd put the Line right there with the Nordica for carving, but yes still the Unleashed by a bit. For mixing shorter turns, carving, float, and playfulness, the ARV is the lighter and quicker option, but it won't out-perform the Nordica. ARV is the park-specific option unless you know you prefer burlier skis like the Poacher for freestyle application.

@@SkiEssentialsso from what i am reading you would either recommend me arv or unleashed. How do you like the ARV 94 on groomers? Or would you just suggest the unleashed because i told you that i am driving on groomers for a fare bit of time. I am concerned i might find the unleashed to stiff, catchy and demanding when i dont want to go fast. Or would you not recommend neither arv nor poacher if groomer performance is also a concerne for me? And which sizes would you go for? I am around 180cm and 75kg. Rather go 170-174(maybe go for the 174 of the unleashed to have it more maneuverable?) or 177-180, depending on which brand i choose? Thanks a lot for your advice

@@paulmassmann1902 It sounds like you are concerned with the metal and the camber of the Unleashed. I wouldn't be too worried about it, especially if you go 174.

hi guys i'm considering the k2 89ti or those 90c to mount with telemark. any suggestion or difference between the two?? thanks

Personally I never really liked metal in my telemark skis--it was more about the drift than the carve for me. As such, I'd choose the 90C, but if you prefer more stability and power in a carved turn, the 89 Ti is the way to go.

The K2 makes a bit more sense as it's easier to learn how to carve on. The Bent is great and a lot of fun, but it's not helping you progress while that's really what the K2 is all about.
