I love how you gave it an honest review even though it's your baby. It sounds like dialing out the understeer and raising the redline is all it really needs. What a gorgeous car.

Nice video. I think that engine could be super frustrating, especially if you've come from a flat 6 Porsche doing 8000rpm and screaming at the redline. Maybe they're saving the high rpms for a future higher power version. Standby for the 420/430 versions with increased rev limits.

I suppose it was never originally designed as a Sports car engine like a Porsche Flat 6, and I doubt Lotus will ever be in a position to develop their own engine. However where it loses out in being a little uninspiring, it makes up for in being cheap, dependable, easy to service and well proven. There's probably a huge number of these Toyota engines in circulation as they've been mass produced for years.

@jubbalandcars if it were a light, slick manual out of a cayman, heck even a honda product, I'm with you. This particular difficult and heavy manual derived from low rpm deisel, no thank you. However, if you're finding positives with it, good on you! Since steering is everything to me, the dialed in understeer has me a bit concerned and confused. My gt3 pushed a bit as well, hoping it can be dialed out.

CGTS 4.0 owner here. I was considering both cars. Emira is beautiful. One thing that I couldn’t wrap my head around was the straight line performance disparity. The cars are almost identical in terms of power and weight figures. The cayman, however, traps ~120 mph in the quarter mile vs the Emira’s ~110 mph. Trap speed is a great indicator of a car’s accelerating performance, and that is a very large delta. Separate leagues almost. Not sure what is at play here, but very odd.
@jubbalandcars
Ай бұрын
Would guess PDK vs manual a part of that. Regardless, straight line performance isn’t what either the CGTS or Emira are about in my opinion. 400hp for Emira and 394hp in Cayman is plenty

The Lotus Emira has aethetics by far. The SC V6 sounds amazing. And I love that Lotus is using the toyota engine because reliability is something to consider when having a fun sports car. The less ya have to fix, the better. I wouldnt really say, from the outside looking in, I'd have a gripe about the car. It seems like a well rounded sports car that can handle well. Lotus ftw

The frustrating part about the redline for me is that you get no natural sensation of the power dropping when it’s time to shift. In fact, it’s pulling crazy hard when the redline hits like a brick wall. It needs 500 more RPM, at least, to feel right. I think that a higher redline borderlines on valve-float, so stinger valve springs would be required. If it weren’t for the transmission not being able to handle more torque, this could easily be a 500bhp car. The first to second shift also can’t be rushed, which is the second frustration that I have. Otherwise, the car is truly an event to drive! I get looks everywhere I go.

In regards to the seating position, also as Harry Metcalfe pointed out, the glass on the doors actually does down a lot lower than other cars which gives the impression you're setting high. Unfortunately it still did bug me though. The car also felt quite slow to me, maybe you need to really rag it to get the most out of it but on the test drive it felt a bit of a non-event to drive.

Modern PPF apparently doesn’t have that issue. I have full end to end STEK Dynoshield on my F-type R. The installer warrantied it for 15 years.
