The ride on my 2024 Mazda 3 was pretty harsh when I bought it. The more miles I put on it, the (relatively) softer the ride becomes.

Our Mazda 2 which is a skyactiv chassis is also pretty stiff. It's tiring and one can only appreciate it on mountainous roads but it spends its time mostly what it is designed for (city driving). Our old 1994 323 protege is so comfortable that you'd forget about the bumps. Probably due to the softer nature of the ride and the multi-link.

There is the CX-70 with this engine, but that's just a CX-90 with a third row delete.

So Mazda could do this fresh car and engine platform but Toyota had to get a transplant from Bavaria for their I6 because?

They didn't have to, they just did the math. In interviews with the Mazda development leads on the cx-90, Mazda had been making slow and steady progress on both the engine and platform since 2016. And probably before then in secret, as there were still ties to Ford during the divorce and the blue oval may have had rights to access. Toyota partnered with BMW to co-develop the Supra in a fraction of that time and for a lower cost, it uses an inline 6 from a company that's been making inline 6's uninterrupted for decades and putting them throughout their lineup (not just in low volume niche vehicles where feedback is limited), built by Magna whose QC are top tier. And it's shared with the Z4, allowing development cost to be spread over greater sales units than if it was the supra itself. Which is important for economies of scale to make it as cheap as it is. Compared to the cx90/70 platform which sell in much larger volumes and being a safer investment and mitigate risk.

I had a 2021 CX-5 with leather and that seat wasn't comfortable...it was so uncomfortable that I traded it in for a Mazda 3 with leatherette. I find that while fine for short trips, for long trips, the Mazda 3 seats can get uncomfortable too. Interestingly, the most comfortable seat is in my '23 Miata. I've driven it on long road trips with no issues.

What you mentioned about the annoying "distracted driver" warning is a very common stupid thing about ADATS (Automated Driver Assistance Technology Systems). They are dangerous and very distracting, Zack. Unfortunately, in most countries, to get a five star safety rating, manufacturers have to include all these "safety" features.

With BMW and it's current styling this is more of an X5 than the X5 is now... I like this more than the X5 👌

I was at my local dealer for an oil change. I saw the CX90 in red. It was beautiful. But damn I wish the base model came with 18-inch wheels for my camping and outdoor lifestyle. I drive a lot on forest and gravel roads.
