A fluid route runner, Hooks is more quick than fast. Where he excels is getting in/out of his breaks, change of direction movement such as pivot and go routes--he can catch it and head upfield in a jiffy. Hooks lateral testing numbers are in the upper-echelon and he possesses a huge catch radius, plus a vertical game (high school basketball standout) that makes him a situational mismatch. He owns a knack for making the one-handed grab with his massive 11-inch hands. The ability to separate was evident during the week of Tropic Bowl practice, where Hooks won the majority of his one-on-one reps and had an impressive game performance with four catches. While Hooks wasn't asked to have a major role during his lone season at Auburn, he made the most of his opportunities, averaging 14.4 yards per catch. The previous year at Jackson State, Hooks hauled in 66 balls, for 775 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, in addition to playing special teams. He began his collegiate career at Ohio. Overall, the frame and athleticism will remind you of Darren Waller. Hooks can provide an easy pitch and catch target for any quarterback with his size and hands. The cousin of Edgerrin James, he has been around the NFL, having also played under Deion Sanders. (report filed by Ric Serritella, Edmonton Elks Advanced Scout)
“I had the option to go there and I did want to go play with my boy, Shedeur," Hooks told BuffsBeat of his time at Jackson State. "The connection we had was like no other. Going into my last year, I wanted to play in the best conference. It was always a childhood dream to go. So, that’s what I wanted to do.”
