Right as Will Power took the checkered flag to get his 41st career win in the second race of the 2024 Hy-Vee IndyCar Race Weekend at Iowa (his first oval-track win since August 18, 2019 at Pocono Raceway), one of the wildest wrecks in Iowa Speedway history happens on the backstretch when Sting Ray Robb launches over Alexander Rossi who was slow exiting Turn 2, causing the car to get serious airtime and barrel roll upside down onto his roof. Ed Carpenter and Kyle Kirkwood got caught up in the wreck trying to avoid Rossi spinning and Sting Ray Robb flipping.
The AMR Safety Team was there quickly to flip Sting Ray Robb's car back over upright and help him out of the car. Robb was loaded into an ambulance (did give both thumbs up by the way) to the infield medical center. He was later transported by air to a local hospital for further evaluation.
I did have plans to watch (and record) the first race of the weekend on Saturday night, which was the Hy-Vee Homefront 250. That race was originally scheduled to be LIVE on NBC, however the telecast was moved to CNBC due to NBC News Special Report coverage of the situation that occurred in Pennsylvania. Because of that, I was unable to watch the Saturday night race.
Scott McLaughlin won on Saturday night for his 6th career win, his first oval track win.
