Good review. I’ll be ordering one soon, mainly to use as a family car, with the intention to go on longer trips. It might be as comfortable as a Ranger, but for a round trip of our beautiful country, I wouldn’t trust any other vehicle apart from this beautiful and reliable Toyota

I'm actually in the market for a new 4x4 dual cab ute at the moment and have been test driving a range of models. The new gen Triton has some nice features, but the lack of in-dash cup holders in anything but the top GSR model is very disappointing, as is the fact you can't fold up the rear seats for storage. But the interior multimedia unit seems top notch and the instrument panel a lot more modern than the current Hilux. As for the 'manual' handbrake, I think it is probably better in terms of longevity and in the event of an electrical problem. An electric handbrake isn't necessarily a deal breaker (like having to control air conditioning from a touch screen would be), but the manual option is my preference. As for the Hilux v Ranger, well, everyone I know (except one) who's had a Ranger has had major issues with it. The one who hasn't also had an issue (the Motorised roll cover didn't work when we were camping and it started raining) - but I don't consider that a 'major' issue (though it did happen within 3 months of buying the car!). In any case, my point is I'm not even test driving the Ranger. I would love to see a review of the SR5 with the 48v (so-called V-Active) technology. One thing not clear from your review, since the Rogue doesn't have the V-Active option, is whether it misses out on Toyota's new Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) technology or if that's only available on a V-Active equipped SR and SR5?

Thanks for your comment and for the great feedback! I’m currently on my way to the Bangkok International Motor Show and hope to have further information for you on the 48v Hilux variant. This Rogue doesn’t have the MTS option. I have a few reviews of the new Triton range coming up and will be able to share some good insights shortly, the new Triton’s infotainment unit definitely is a winner though.

Great review! I am torn between Isuzu Dmax X Terrain and 48v Rogue... What are your views on both?
@roadtrip_reviews

Thank you! I’m a big fan of both, the interior screen has me sold on the D-Max every time, however the raised suspension and wider track of the Hilux Rogue is tough!

You asked if people prefer an electronic handbrake or a manual one. Me, I'd go manual. Because if you flatten the battery, does the electronic handbrake work?

Last year I went the ranger over the hilux. Almost went the dmax but wait time was too long after another delay. The ranger is far superior over the hilux in almost every way, especially the V6. Only issue is the perspective reliability but I haven't had any issues with mine. If you want that old school 4wd ute type and dont mind paying an absolute premium then the hilux is for you. But why wouldn't you get the Dmax instead?

I would only prefer the GR over this because its gets rock slides and removes the rear sway bar for heavier off roading.

Honestly mate this was a great review. Do you think waiting for the 48V system is worth it or get the rogue with out it while you can? took the Toyota rogue 2024 and the D max x terrain 2024 for a test drive today and I have to say the Toyota drives better but the D max has such better Tec I cant understand for that price how the reverse camera is so trash... why Toyota just why.
@roadtrip_reviews

What blows my mind is that the reverse cameras on Toyota models are usually some of the best! Honestly I think get the non-48V system version. The benefits don’t necessarily outweigh grabbing a great deal on the outgoing Rogue.

100% agree that the reverse camera quality is trailing other key brands, although I must say they’ve done a good job at keeping this car a usable work ute while “beefing” it up a bit and done the mechanical work required to do so.
