my sister's 2023 Taos SEL gets much better mpg than 27... went on a 520mi road trip with 20 miles left until empty. 39.2 mpg overall. and everyday highway driving normally gets 36. the long-term summary says she has averaged 32.7 mpg since she bought it.

I bought a '22 Taos se fwd new and have been very pleased with it over 2 years and 44k miles, no issues besides when I got bad gas. The 8 speed definitely is a factor to why I bought it over the other cuv's with cvt (yuck), power, large cargo, and mpg since I do have a decent commute. I am mixed with the seats some days I feel like I can't get comfortable and others they're fine, the remote start sucks and doesn't work far enough or the antenna doesn't reach. The pros are the drivers assist features actually work very well and speed adjust, overall driving it is quite a spunky little thing. My mpg if I'm able to drive reasonable it usually will average 33-35, I have seen on longer drives closer to 40 quite often. Overall for the money, features that others don't have for a mid or some for high trims for more money cough cough lumbar it's worth it. Resale I couldn't care less about especially if you drive a lot it doesn't usually help by more than a grand or two, serial flipping yeah I'd be more concerned.

Getting the sel trim next week, super duper excited. Using it for interstate travel and also camping at festivals, so all the added extras will come in handy- I've driven my mom's jetta and the tech is very similar, love the ACC and Travel Assist. Excited for the beats audio and gesture controlled screen on the sel ^.^ plus it's a attractive car for a soccer mom van lol

Like the Taos but I have to agree VW needs to update their infotainment, dash, and console. I think if they kept pace with Hyundai / Kia and then just ran with the German minimalism it would be a beloved car. Like other people mentioned, these are BIG. Every VW feels almost half a step bigger than their competitors. Their engines are great, fk the haters. Give me a modern dash with a panoramic roof, vented seats (don't have to be leather) for 30k-ish and you're talking. But that center console looks like something out of 2015, which lest I remind people is 10 years ago.

Getting the taos sel- ive been driving my moms jetta while shes recovering from surgery and it has the same 'turbo lag'. Ive found using the ACC with Eco mode will even that out a bit, though the get up and go is understandably slow- in town i set the speed at 45, brake into lights to put it in standby then click resume on green and it works its way smoothly back up to 45. If i need more speed ill use the pedal ^.^ its dumb, but i hate that lag so much that this is the option for me. Im not about to change the way i apply pressure to the gas pedal because of theit finnicky acceleration- so im glad the ACC + Eco combo helps buff it out

The Taos is better than a Jeep Compass. In my opinion VW made better cars from new 1999-2004 My 2001 Jetta GL with 2.OL non-turbo engine, 5 sp stick, roller windows, was good for 16 years and 118k miles with never breaking down. Replaced obvious wear parts from suspension/shocks, brake pads. All but one headlight and tailight were original to my August 2000 purchase in San Diego. Traded an Acura Integra LS couple and was nervous. Best under $20k new car I ever leased or bought. VW bring back the reliable workhorse 2.0L 115 hp engine (Please add Overdrive) and give us VW engine that will last up to 200k miles.

The speed or quickness of any cars in this segment should be a non factor. None of these cars are meant to be fast in any way lol. They’re supposed to be fuel sippers. If you want a race car get one lol

Engineering bsck ground. Problem is if you get the luxury trim, it is not that much less than an Audi . Not that they are bad cars but why not pay a little more, and get the Audi.? Same problem Toyota has, for a little mote you can get a Lexus RX vs a Toyota crossover

Taos, the only SUV where reviewers say don't get the AWD version because with a DCT it can't be driven smoothly at all. It makes me wonder if VW have actually taken the time to read the reviews. They are bringing back physical buttons on the 25 GTI after years of complaints. Maybe they will ditch the DCT and just offer the Taos with the 8-speed automatic if enough people complain.

I personally love the feel of driving the 7 speed DSG. Much more responsive than the 8 speed, it just takes a bit of getting used the acceleration. I noticed much more turbo lag on the 8 speed with FWD when I was doing test drives before buying. Can totally understand why people don't like it though, I'm happy I got mine when I did cause the 7 speed will probably be gone in 2025

@@patrickboom05Curious if you experience the downshift “jolt” from 3rd to 2nd right at 20 to 19 mph dip. It’s been annoying me, not sure if it’s just unique to my 2023 SE FWD.
