Title:
Pelican: Advancing Science by Delivering Data
Abstract:
Data is the lifeblood of science: without any inputs, even the most clever algorithm is useless. The nation has invested in a wealth of valuable scientific datasets -- and a host of different computational resources -- but it remains a challenge to connect the repositories to the compute. The newly-funded Pelican project aims to connect the two sides by supporting and strengthening the Open Science Data Federation (OSDF). The OSDF currently connects about a dozen repositories and to a data distribution infrastructure of about 2 dozen caches embedded in networks and computing centers across the nation and globally. Pelican aims to simplify the process of connecting to the OSDF, broaden the number of connected repositories, and make it easier to use the OSDF from computing environments. This talk will provide an overview of the Pelican platform, the OSDF, and how we plan to grow over the next few years
