Aboard a luxury floating lounge, with lunch on a private island.
Our guide told us legends during the visit to Opunohu Bay. Not sure if it's true, this is also where Tiger sharks came to have baby sharks. This meant this was not one of the places suitable for swimming or snorkeling.
We got really close and personal with black-tip sharks, stingrays, and colorful tropical fish. The stingrays would cling to the tour guide as he was feeding them. Stingrays are smooth to the touch. I patted so many of them. I tried my hardest to swim after the sharks as they casually cruised around us. It was oddly gratifying to be able to keep up with these majestic and usually fearful creatures, despite I was nearly out of breath and they were just chilling.
Then a quick stop to see turtles. The captain would call out turtle sightings and we'd run to the side of the boat to catch a glimpse of them hanging out at the bottom of the water or slowly swimming up to the surface.
The coral garden is next to the private island where lunch, Poisson Cru, and coconut milk-making demonstrations take place. We found a picnic table right next to the water. Stingrays, sharks, and fish swim by as we enjoy our lunch.
After lunch, we anchored in the middle of the ocean to visit the sunken tiki garden. There were tiki at the bottom of the sea floor. The captain invited us to slide down from the slider on the side of the boat. That looked like so much fun! I tried it and got a noseful of seawater. Not as fun as I imagined. Regardless the tiki was very cool. Some fish colonies started to take shelter on the tiki sculpture.
We had so much fun. After we returned to the resort we went right back into the water to do more snorkeling. We came across a turtle that narrowly passed Michelle as it headed under our bungalow, toward the shallow water. I tried to chase after it but navigating through the coral reef slowed me down and I lost track of the turtle.
