I just returned from a 400 mile trip in my CX70 turbo s premium. 30.2 mpg! And I was driving between 70 and 80 mph. This was not my first 30 mpg highway trip. My CX9 didn’t get mileage this good.

That is terrific. My 22 Acura MDX Can't Touch that - easy up to 30% less than that on a comparable trip AND that is with the standard 3.5L , 290 HP engine!!

Picking up my Turbo S Premium Plus this Saturday so I’m really thrilled about these results. I drive 98 miles round trip to work every day and take plenty of road trips as a skier. Knowing this gets better mileage than my beloved CX-5 makes me feel even better about trading up.

Hey Man, This was great Real World MPG test drive. My 22 MDX Advance (nonType S) gets on average on a similar test 30% Below that result! I 'm liking this CX-70, and as a Premium Plus Turbo S model - it is a strong consideration o replace my 22 MDX (lease extension until Feb 2025). The MDX is a bit more luxurious with a great Sound system, the negatives are the MPGs and The Touch Pad InfoT. system. I'm glad to see that Mazda at least has a touch screen in AA or CP Mode! I will definitely be test driving one soon. For comparison ..... a New 25 MDX Advance which now has a Touchscreen , added massaging seats, has an Interior Light show (which I really don't play with), a new Bang & Olfson Spund system (? - there was nothing lacking in the ELS system in my MDX), HP at 290 , Torque at 267 lbs BUT costs about $9K more ! A Type S which has the power numbers of the CX-70 Turbo S is about $19K MORE with 30%+ less MPGs!

Everyone gets the back WRONG. They aren't the same cup holders in the CX70 as they are in the CX90. Go look at the back of a CX90. You can't put cups in the cubbies in the CX70. What you could do with those cubbies, I don't know and I own a CX70. But cup holders they aren't.

Thanks for showing the blinged out with chrome CX-90 image right next to the more bad-ass sporty, blacked out CX-70 facia, so I clearly see what I chose by avoiding a superfluous 3rd row!

Did a 2016 CX-9 have a turbo? If not, isn’t 23 from a non-turbo 2.5L I4 i.c.e. kinda horrendous?

@@DeeEllEff the cx9 has a turbo 4cyl and 250 hp the cx70 has a turbo inline 6 with 340 hp and gets 5 miles per gallon better plus the cx70 weighs 400 lb more

Did you observe any performance differences between the 3.3 Turbo engine and the CX-90 engine when the battery was depleted?
@offtheshelfrides
Ай бұрын
Even when the CX-90 PHEV battery is depleted, it retains enough battery space to run most hybrid functions and the electric drive motor. So the difference in horsepower is only 17 hp more in the 3.3 turbo s, but there is more torque coming from the CX-90 phev. The phev has an electric drive motor vs the 3.3 turbo s has a electric drive wedged between the engine and transmission. I feel the cx-90 phev accelerated better and the battery weight made it feel it had better driving dynamics.

@@offtheshelfrides - thanks for clarifying. I was under the impression that once the battery depletes, the CX-90 phev solely depends on the 2.5L 187 HP engine. Glad to hear that this is not the case.

It basically turns into a mild hybrid. Start/stop and acceleration but doesn't drive in electric only.

has Mazda ironed out the clunky operation of the powertrain, especially at low speeds?

Not on this one, although this could be a pre-production model. I talk about that specifically in my Full Review. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kotqnmdjrX5jjXYsi=2KBvElHOkZTBoT5n

Seems the combined mpg would apply to city driving under stop and go rush hour traffic. The 30.6 seems accurate for suburban driving. How much stop and go was done? Just lights or actually crawling thru traffic?

Stop lights, stop signs, some traffic, no slow congestion. I don't show that because most people Don't want to sit through a 2 hour video.

@@offtheshelfrides I get it. Was just asking because some of us have a 45 commute and 25 of those minutes can be stop and go at 10-15 mph.
