Looking at new Kubota. Thought I wanted R4s. Your video convinced me to stay with the tried and true R1s. Thanks

Glad I could help, if field work is your thing they are the best choice. Can't remember if I mentioned it in the video, but they are a little rough on the yard at the house.

I have R1 tires on a Kubota L3540HST (loaded 12.4x24 rear and 7.2x16 front) for 12 years. I do field work, wood work (skiding, hauling) at summer and winter time (very harsh north east conditions). Snow removal without tire chains. Mowing, land plane grading. Loader and grapple work. All kind of stuff. Never got stuck. If I had a finishing mower for that tractor, I would not dare putting a wheel on my lawn. These tires are so agressive that they leave traces on packed gravel. I would love to give a try to the new Good Year Titan R14 tires. It seems a good compromise between the R1 and R4.

I had looked at the R14's, but I decided on the R1's based on what I do with the tractor. I agree though, I really believe that someone could mow with the R14's.

Chuck man I will say I run a 60 in brush hog on my 2038r and I have yet to lug the tractor down with that being said the turbo will make an appearance sometimes

If you ever get the chance, would love to see if the 2038 with the R1's, pull a double bottom plow.

We have a very old that is in need of repair, but it's on our list of things to look at in the spring, I'm hoping we can get them ready.

R1's only thing for pasture,field work as you found out!! Do not believe the new R14 can compare to R1's in muddy pasture conditions Been tractoring since the 50/60'S . All with R1's. Have fun with the new tires.

I looked pretty hard at the R14's, what kept hanging me up is the lugs in the center of the tread are still pretty tight, not sure they would clean out like these R1's do. But you also mow with yours, so the R1's would not work. Since you have to buy new wheels anyway you could always swap out the R1's after mowing season is done, it would certainly make your round bale feeding easier during the winter/wet months.

I like your set up with the 2038r, I’ll be taking delivery of the exact thing this week. I think it will work perfect for our operation. Quick question: What brand round bale feeder is that? I like how it keeps it off the ground. Great videos, keep it up. Thanks

Thank you, you'll really enjoy this tractor. The feeder is such: tarterusa.com/tarter-products/galvanized-cradle-bale-feeder We love this feeder, we have minimalized the waste a great deal. As long as we aren't in a big rainy period the horses will clean pretty much all of the hay.

great video one thing to check is i don't believe if you run a mid mount mower you can have the r1 tires which i know you dont just saying
@ElkCreekAcres

That’s a good point, the front stance is probably too wide and the rear tires are actually a little bigger.

OK, this is the thing...only one tire will allow your tractor to show it's full potential. That's the R1 tire, plain and simple.

Agreed 100%. I've been more impressed with this tractor since putting them on, that's for sure. Only down side to the R1 is how quickly the fronts wear, but I also do a lot of FEL work, that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Did you buy them from Deere?? If so, Do you have a part number because I had been wanting to do the same but wasn't sure about getting something site unseen.

I did go through my dealer, I'll have to look on the invoice for the part #'s, but your dealer should be able to help you. I priced them separately through another tire place in town and the dealer price was a good price, just something to keep in mind.

How did you find out the correct ratio? Since the R1 tires are taller.

These are the R1's combos that are listed as an approved tire size for this tractor, ordered through my dealer.

What is the widest setting ? Everyone measures the Narrow setting but you want wide for hills.
@ElkCreekAcres

The R1's are 58" with the wheel spacers, the R4's are 59". I think the R3 radial is the narrow one, according to the manual they are only about 55" with the wheel spacers.

I wish JD offered the R14s because ill have about 5 acres which I will mow garden and work in the woods.. and the R1s are nice - they would trash the yard though wont they
@ElkCreekAcres

Yeah, if your yard is prone to being soft when wet the R1's will absolutely tear it up. The R14's came out shortly before I traded for my 2038R, there wasn't much about them at the time, but I'll be getting them once the R1's a worn out.
