Wonderful photos and music. I've said this previously, I'm sure, but I love the hair and clothing styles of the '40s, '50s, and the first half of the '60s. Just awesome (and sexy).

Men have been seen as sexy forever but only in certain periods of time has this image been acknowledged & accepted. I remember my mother saying (this was in the 1970s), "Women dress for other women." I didn't understand what she meant but realized over time we all dress, act, speak, etc, to impress, influence, & identify with others. Particularly of our our own gender. Who will say something about my hair if I change it, my mates or the ladies. Well both, but whose opinion matters more?

We men need non- sexual emotional and physical closeness to other men.

It's unfortunate men have become uncomfortable being physically & emotionally close to other men, especially in the US. I believe this is a major contributor to the high levels of violence in this country. Also, sexuality is more complex than most folks are willing to understand & accept, where any perceived weakness is detrimental to the essential image of men as masculine & macho.

Could it have been the McCarthy thing that did emotional violence to male society. I grew up in the fifties and speaking personally there was a huge male closeness stigma / terror . These photos hit me right between the eyes I'm stunned .

I'm afraid you've missed the point here. By & large, these are straight men in times & places & roles where it was acceptable & comfortable to be truly close to friends & relatives.
