I picked up the 2022 Never Summer Proto Synthesis. I can’t wait for the mountains to open out east. My 14 year old son introduced me to Never Summer and your channel. Love the content and the education your channel provides. Never Summer has great educational awareness about their boards and makes it very easy to find a board to fit a style demographic. Its awesome to see how the content has inspired him to grow a deeper knowledge base about the sport. He takes time to learn more about the engineering of complex materials and design that goes into the boards and equipment. I wanted to take a moment and say thank you.

Coming in at 6’5” 240 with size 15 feet, it’s hard to find a good twin board that’s wide enough for me but still got the pop of those smaller boards. But let me tell you the Neversummer Protosynthesis Drag Free checks all my boxes and I’ve never been happier with a purchase in my life!

I wanted to ask which board and size would fit best for me. My height is 170 and because of working out my weight is about 75-80 kg, it depends. My actual board is a 153cm length and I like it but wanted something shorter, for example 149 cm. Would that be okay because of my relatively high weight if I get the proto slinger or synthesis? I would not ride primarily park but I‘m constantly make butters, 180, rolls or something like this along the piste (with sidehits). To nail the question: which board of the two mentioned would you recommend and which length?

For the style of riding you are talking about I would go with the Photosynthesis, but I would stay in the 152-153 range for your size. You will want the few extra cm for extra stability and pop. PROTOSYNTHESIS: www.the-house.com/ss007325zz-never-summer-snowboards

@@thehouse Thanks for your response. Do I have to pay taxes if I order from this website (to Germany)? A further question, wouldnt be the slinger much better for buttering because of the lower flex? My current board is a Nidecker Sensor Plus with a flex of 7-8 and I think its pretty stiff. I‘m a little bit worried that I would wish something softer if I get the synthesis

@@drsteee I'm sure there will be some customs/import fees of some sort. The Protoslinger would be good too but it is more for that rider looking to spend most of their time riding the park.

Great Video! I am, 6'2" 185lbs size 11.5 boot and your favorite rec league hero, looking to add a twin board to my quiver. Past two years I have been riding My Ride Warpig XL, which I believe, is too big for my size but the shop insisted. I am catching frozen gnar about 100 days/season rider on the ICE coast, was looking at the GNU RC3 but the NS material and architecture, from this video alone, has me interested in the NS PROTO FR 157 or the ns ultra just confused on sizing. I am looking to progress my switch riding to eventually make the mtn my skatepark.

I would stay away from the FR honestly. It’s a super rad biard but it’s for freeride, going fast and charging hard. The Protosynthesis or Proto Slinger would be a much better option to ride park with. As for sizing id stuck to the low 160’s fir your height. The smaller boards will fit your weight but you have a high center of gravity so a couple extra CM will give you more pop and stability

With all due respect it just kinda bugs me that NS barrows a lot of tech from mervin. Not to mention they market things like “drag free” but force you to upsize when you can easily buy a lib tech at a 26.8 waist with a 157 length. Don’t get me wrong ns makes awesome decks but lib made all this possible for them and to be quite frank mervin definitely makes better boards. 🤷🏼♂️

Not many people realize this but technically Never Summer was the first company to do a hybrid rocker to camber design. Most people think it was Lib Tech because they some how won and award for it the year after NS introduced it. As for the Drag Free designs, they do have a 159 in the Protosynthesis DF model, and those boards are CRAZY wide like 28+. Not trying to bust your balls here, just educating. At the end of the day Both Never Summer and Mervin have awesome boards and technologies and ideas cross between companies all the time.

@@thehouse didn’t know that! I alwways thought mervin made the skate banana and that’s what revolutionized the whole hybrid rocker style board? What board did NS release before the skate banana? Also in comparison I just appreciate the fact that Mervin makes boards that are shorter and wide enough for big feet. Most companies force you to upsize the get a wider waist. Even then it’s like 162 with a 264 waist kind of annoying when you have a 12 plus boot and don’t always want to ride long boards.
@thehouse
2 жыл бұрын
@@SAUCE206 The original "banana" from Mervin was just rocker between the feet and flat to the kicks. When NS released their hybrid it was a few boards with the rocker/camber design and Libs boards were still all just rocker to flat in the tips. Funny thing is technically the first rockered board was a Kidwell board made in 85'/86' but the technology really hadn't been figured out to make it work properly. As for the widths check out the "X" sized boards from Never Summer. They are all plenty wide for boots over a size 12, especially with the small footprints of boots these days. The Drag Free sizes are like Extra Wides for either dudes with huge feet like in the 15 range, or guys that are crazy good at carving and don't mind working a little harder to get the board from edge to edge so they can can lay down carves that 99% of the riders out there can't. Check out this video about wide boards for a pretty eye opening take on not just the width of boards but the footprint of todays boots -> kzitem.info/news/bejne/saGX1aCmb3NqlWk

Mervin doesn't build better boards. Lol. Mervin doesn't even do a full edge wrap touting it makes it easier to repair. Guess what, a full edge wrap prevents you have having to make those repairs. NS is much more durable overall and a more damp ride. NS is the better brand, but ride what you want. Just don't be misinformed. I do like the magna traction in the Mervin line up and imo holds a better edge than NS vario grip, but that's about it.
