@engvidAlex
7 жыл бұрын
If you'd like to invite them to eat (usually for breakfast or lunch), the more common question is "Have you eaten?" These are also common: "Have you eaten yet?" "Have you already eaten?" "Did you eat yet?" and "Did you already eat?" are also fine and acceptable.

Dear Mr Adam,I have recently come across a sentence like this__they climbed over the mountain without being seen__I know the structure is in passive voice.But cannot we say "the mountain was climbed over by them without being seen" please explain the reason for not changing as above.P Siva Rao,India.
@engvidAlex
6 жыл бұрын
This is a usage question as well as a grammar question. The easiest answer is that we don't usually talk about mountains RECEIVING actions from people. Both sentences are grammatically correct, although in the second one, it is THE MOUNTAIN that was not being seen. In the first sentence, it's clear that it's the people who climbed the mountain and were not seen. The passive is used in a lot of different cases, but it just isn't needed here.

In your example there is the "already ......... ?" But doesn't the "already" belong to the end of the sentence? My english teacher told me corretly grammer was if the already was at the end of the sentence. So now i'm wondering about it...
@engvidAlex
6 жыл бұрын
You can also put "already" before the main verb when using the present perfect. "I've already eaten. "He's already finished." You can also put it at the end of the sentences in these cases, though, so your teacher is not necessarily wrong. :)
