SOOOO true NEVER give a salary number if you can avoid it. I saw that a company of interest has a 401k Plan, I MISSED The detail that there was no company match. With that NEW knowledge, I would want at least 3-4% more on base from them. You really can get recruiters to share the range.. TRY IT.

Just finished my interview with our competitors and they loved my interview. Interview manager came from my current company and we connected really well during the interview. The recruiter call me the next morning and told me he is working on offer. The company did ask in the application my salary expectation but I want to get more.

Hi Andy i am 29 i was out of work for 4 years due to personal reasons just after finishing college, taking care of my mother she was not well yet working fortunately she has retired now so how can i start my job search process which points would work in my favour like direct cold call or cold email or posting resume or messaging on LinkedIn ? Also does being very honest direct help me in this case should i first talk about it before they coming to know ? Are there any good books on this subject to know more ...

Hi Andy. thanks a lot for your very innovative, logical and yet simplified way of negotiation during the interview process. Your overall approach/ technique not only helped me to be successful in 90% of interviews but actually helped me negotiate an executive-level position from an advertised/ budgeted position of senior management. Wanted to thank you, all the way from Pakistan. cheers

Thanks for the frank, honest and direct communication. I've watched a few other negotiation videos and yours are by far the most useful. I appreciate it

How to negotiate after giving them my current pay?

That is a great question. In fact, I have a video on my channel titled something like how to get a higher salary after giving your expected salary it’s something like that.

Thanks Andy! I received an offer to help a company improve their compensation benchmarks across the company and also lead recruiting and onboarding. Unfortunately the salary offered was about 40% less than all the benchmarks that I could find. I countered with a number 30% higher and how I came up with the number. I check all the boxes and more but there is a disconnect between the value I bring and what they are willing to pay. Not sure it will work out. They are getting way more than they know they need at the moment, but there are challenges ahead they are not even aware of.

I took your advice and didn’t ask for anything until the very end when my stock is the highest. Interestingly enough, a compensation range was somehow projected onto me even though I never gave a range. One interviewer went and asked the salary range and came back and told me, I didn’t agree or disagree with it, I simply said “thank you for sharing.” Later on that interviewer told the HR Manager that the number was my range. Weird stuff

Recently, I have been mentioning in job interviews of the time that I took upon the workload of multiple people during the COVID staff shortages and how I was on the path towards leadership. I think I have been relying too much on that story but what is the best part of it to articulate in job interviews? I'm sure there is something useful still

Andy says better to have a strong relevant story then a recent not as helpful one

How many people can actually do this? I’d say not the majority

Most, if not all. Use what you can. Even if you aren’t completely sure how to do this, ask for more and provide a rationale. Statistics and surveys show you can usually get more simply by asking. Employers generally hold a little back on their first offer.
