Somewhere nearby, your neighbors are building a new highway to cover the sound of the generator.

The generator should be back up only, solar is the future. I’m surprised you don’t recycle laptop batteries into power-walls. Perhaps strike a deal with the recycling centre. I buy mine at £1 each, contains about 6 cells.

Add some vents in the bottom to bring in cool air. With the vents in the top you will have a chimney effect and may not need active air movement. Also paint the out side white to minimize sun loading.

my 2 cents: - cover all the live wires. - power=heat so don't screw hot stuff directly onto wood, use some spacers or you risk burning everything. - for the ventilation try the passive system used in earthships, it's basically an underground tube that chills the air. btw....love the project

I see you did pretty much the same as we did a couple months ago. Fyi, that phenolic plywood needs sealing on the cut edges. Also you need surge protectors/lightning protector between panel and mppt controller and between inverter and system.

Nice that the project is advancing! Regarding the heat in the box, this is very basic and you may have already considered it: painting the box in a light color; and maybe adding some opening in the bottom of the box (like in passive houses, so that it creates a flow of air, taking advantage of the fact that hot air goes up). And also, when it rains, if you happen to have the wind blowing in a transversal direction, couldn't water get on the box throw the ventilation?

Nice setup! Good cooling will extend the lifespan of devices like the inverter. All those electrolytic capacitors dry out faster when they are hot all the time.

English translation: "I would just seal all sawn sides with something; paint, epoxy, stain, etc. Otherwise the concrete plywood will split open at the edges". I would also agree. The wood needs to be protected. And it can be done super cheaply using some garden furniture paint. I recently repainted my garden picnic table using a brand called cuprinol which has been extremely effective at sealing it from rain (which we get a lot in Ireland). We used 2 coats. Not sure if the brand is available in portugal but maybe you can find one similar to it.

Looking good. But cover your solar panels when not connected. Also Lithium batteries don’t like the cold. So consider how to keep them warmer than 10c in the winter. And the panels should go to the MPPT before the fuse box. You can install an inline fuse on the positive feed to the MPPT.

Nice job of the power station, good to see ventilation. Do you have a smoke alarm in there? And a powder extinguisher, just in case, lithium fires are a nightmare. Make sure nothing flammable is on the other side too. I also trust it’s vermin proof and fully water resistant. Amazing work tho.
@GrannygearKiller

Fantastic video as always! I think the power box however needs more ventilation. That inverter is going to warm up a lot when you’re using some tools etc. Not only that, but you want to keep the lithium battery cool (well…not hot) for best longevity
@edwardseth1230
3 жыл бұрын
add 2 either 80mm or 120mm or 140mm (PC 12v brushless with grill) attached via USB (3 speed) would be ok to keep the box cool (install one to bring in cool air and one to vent out hot air out (Grill side is usually the air blown outwards) add 2 analog electrical gauges 1 for Watts and the other for AMPs. (it is also advisable to keep a analog multimeter (Gardner Bender Multimeters GMT-312) handy..so if there is a future electrical problem you can easily check what part or wiring is faulty n change them.

Good job. You should consider not installing inverters, charge controllers, and fuses on flammable surfaces according to the standards (safety instructions). The wooden plate where you installed the components should have at least an insulation material. The inverter will be warm and the batterie terminals also.

I wonder if burms along your property might help with noise pollution. If you had a hill the same height of the average car engine or exhaust, with a slope or curve of at least 45 degrees, I think it would redirect the noise up and away from your land. The ultimate solution is a wall, but that can look uninviting and can be expensive, but a hill less than 2 meters might look less intrusive, and planting something like bamboo on top could give you a natural fence, if you wanted privacy, and provide renewable materials further down the line while dampening even more sound. It’s a lot of effort, but ultimately something doable by hand with enough people, or a one time expense if you hire out machines. If you use the earth behind the burm, you create a channel behind it that could also become a canal with running water to even further dampen or mask noise, assuming you have the water.

1 - If you put one vent low and 1 vent high that will encourage normal convection to passively move air. Cold air in the bottom, hot air out the top. 2 - You may be able to connect your generator to your solar setup to charge the batteries as a backup. Not sure if this is valuable to you.
