fun fact: chevy chase was going to be the drummer for steely, but he was kicked out of college for keeping a cow in his dorm room (as a joke to troll university staff that might discover it if they invaded his private quarters). i forgot the rest of the history, but i think he was accepted to a new school where he pursued acting. ironically, chevy was actually possibly the most talented. he was said to have BOTH the best timing AND concept of melody. later, when asked about the time in the band prior to the name change to _steely dan_ chevy said, "ya, i was part of a bad jazz rock band". the truth is, chevy was just trying to roast of the ubiquitous bands of the last 50 years. this band has survived the ages and defied obsolescence, and rightfully so!
@wesleyhempoli5548
Жыл бұрын
ya, and this was Chevy's favorite song. if you listen to the lyrics its about the guys in their early 30s, chasing younger women (hey nineteen), but how they have less in common. it starts out "back in '67" which 13 years from the time they recorded this in 1980 when were in their early 30s. back in 67 they were in college in boston and when they returned in 1980 to relive memories they found out that they had less in common with the college girls because now they were older and more mature. i like the lyric where he says the college girl never even heard of Athena franklin and he thought that was crazy that she didnt know the queen of soul and she thought he was crazy for talking about old music, which he found very ironic. but now hes just enjoying the night smoking herb (the ceurvo gold, the fine columbian) even though he has less in common with the girls 10 years younger than he did ten years ago. then he says "skate a little lower" because really he just wants to check out the young tail even if they cant "dance together" or "talk at all" but "let me know when to slide on through"!! i love songs like this that are so lyrically pure and easy to understand and just tell a relatable story. just a fun song really

She doesn't know who Aretha Franklin is. She doesn't know the old dances. They cannot relate to each other no matter how much he wants to. lol The Cuervo Gold of course is tequila and "The fine Colombian" was the high end weed at the time. It’s interesting that you already reacted to the song Do It Again, because a good DJ could take Do It Again and Hey Nineteen had another song by them from their Katy Lied album called Everyone’s Gone to the Movies….and with some slight tempo adjustments and pitch shifts do an awesome mash up, because the rhythm sections are pretty much exactly the same on all three songs! The only difference being that Hey Nineteen’s drummer was Wendell the drum machine. Fun fact: Steely Dan INVENTED the very first drum machine for the Gaucho album, so all the hip hop artists of today owe their ability to create beats to Steely Dan!
