I think its absolutely important to know how to pronounce names of the person who you are about to interview. Its no big brain to rehearse names before interviewing them. Not only that , such a important people they are and the interviewer doesn't know how to pronounce their names.

I understand your point but not every one can pronounce words from languages which is not similar to them. English is my second language and I still have a hard time while pronouncing some words. And I also think that Korean words and letters are not really easy to pronounce for western languages speakers.

Yes and no. Yes, try to listen and pronounce their names correctly. But even when you're listening to someone pronounce their own name it can be difficult to hear it right when it's not your own language. I still don't know if it's "Yung-Yae" or "Jung-Jae" (pronounced the English way) despite watching it in Korean and hearing him say his name in interviews. It's just too quick for me to grasp. Also oftentimes certain sounds are difficult to make if they don't exist in your language. The "th" is difficult to pronounce for Germans and if you don't speak English and just want to repeat a word someone said it's close to impossible. The German "CH" is equally hard for English speakers. Ask someone with no knowledge of German to repeat just the word "ich" ("I") and they will fail 100%. God, I wish how many people still call me "ASS-Trid" instead of "US-trid" despite hearing it multiple times. So let's not be harsh on people. It's much worse if they show no interest or did not research beforehand (such as the interviewer asking Jung-Jae how it felt being famous all of a sudden). It's disrespectful. Mispronouncing a name isn't in itself disrespectful.

I've always felt that proper pronunciation of names is upmost important when speaking to another person from another culture/language. Butchering a name is the worst of worst initial impression that will color all other future interactions and is very hard to come back from. Saying that, I (I'm Korean descent but was born and grew up in the US) give most people a pass when it's obvious that hey put in a GOOD effort - no matter how bad they might butcher my name or other peoples name. What I can't accept is people that are lazy and/or just give no effort into trying to get it right. The most irritating thing is when someone says "I'm not going to even try to say this name because I'm going to say it wrong..." and it's obvious that they are being insincere because they didn't even try. I can accept someone saying something like that after trying to say it right and because someone keeps telling them that they are not saying it correctly, they might be self-conscience. But most people that just straight up butcher peoples names or just avoid saying it, didn't really try - and that's annoying. That's how I look at it - if you can show you tried, I can forgive any level of mispronunciation. Now, I know it's different for everyone and what can you expect from a total stranger that you just met? But where I really have a problem is professionals. If it is part of your job - get it right. You are a reporter, or someone that has to interface with people - do your homework. I have no sympathy. Would you go interview the pope, or the president of your own country, or some superstar and NOT learn to pronounce their name? That's just lazy. Do your job - and if you can't, then it's seems that you can't do your job well. PROTIP: If you want to have one of the best initial reactions with a stranger from another culture - I mean like, they will be astonished and will speak well of you - say a name in their language, especially a difficult one - almost perfect. I've seen English speakers say a very difficult Chinese name properly and it will astonish Chinese speakers. example: There is a very famous Warlord in Chinese history named Ciao-ciao (guess the proper pronunciation). My friend who is as American as one can be, is a big military history buff and once said his name talking about military history with my father. My friend pronounced this name dead on proper and it amazed my father so much that he forgot what they were talking about and went on about how great my friend's pronunciation and more importantly - how considerate he was to learn the correct pronunciation. Such a small thing makes a huge impression - especially to people that get to hear their language butchered day in and day out. Also, their is a wide range of level of respect with people around the world - I don't have to mention how much respect goes in many Asian cultures. Respect can literally pay for the price of admission.

I agree, but as a South Korean myself, Korean name spelling is not quite systematized I think, every person has different choice for same pronunciation. That's important thing to be improved actually.

No matter how hard you try, it can be near impossible to pronounce names in a language that is not yours, especially if said language has sounds that yours doesn't (eg an English speaker will have a hard time pronouncing a German "ch" or "Ä, Ö, Ü" and a name like "Jürgen" is very hard if you have only some knowledge of the language, impossible if you have none) . I'd love to hear YOU pronounce MY name. So stop being arrogant

I think JJ is just uncomfortable in interviews in US since it's in English plus he didn't expect that the show will lead to international success. but when he is doing interview in his native Korea he is always smiling and bubbly. He will get use to it. Give him some time.
