You probably won't due to either where you fail, how it handles failures like regular elevators, future technologies and the remaining speed it has until reaching apogee. Let's discuss: 1. If it starts up, hits 4 miles and fails, it might have the ability to coast on it's track until gravity slows it down and it stops via an electro-magnetic locking system. 2. Similar answer to #1. An elevator failure on earth has electro-magnetic brakes that stop it from free fall. 3. Now let's get scarier. Say the rail breaks when you are 160 miles up and at your current velocity, the mechanism is designed with any of the following physics capabilities, rocket capabilities, SpaceX/Blue Origins burn back technologies, it's current velocity, regular free fall until you can parachute the capsule, etc. First at 160 miles, you'd be traveling so fast that you'd hit 220 miles before you had to worry about it. The capsule would detach at apogee and either a rescue craft would grab you (as you would be in space already) or the capsule would auto pilot to it's destination or back to earth. 4. Like SpaceX, if it's all automated to return you all safely, it would detach from the broken elevator and just like the first stage of falcon 9, you'd slow down, hit your apogee, and gravity as well as the minor drag would start to slow you down and help increase your fall while in 0 Gs. The capsule would do one of 2 or 3 burn backs to slow you down for re-entry, a burn to get you within a certain distance of the launch point and a burn to land like the falcon 9, or a parachute system instead of that final burn. I wouldn't be worried at all in this kind of future EXCEPT FOR KESSLER SYNDROME.
@stillbreezing5330

@@r2steve2 sounds fine except for the gravity slowing you down. If it did it would only be at the apogee, than gravity would impose itself again. But is this real? Looks like Florida.

It literally takes a NASA rocket 08:30 to reach orbital altitudes which is what the top end of this structure would need to be at to have any chance of actually being feasible (which it's not for many other reasons one being it would snap if it was tethered to the ground. NASA has thought of this and siad that a structure that extended from the surface to space would need to not be attached to the surface and rather be supported by an orbiting structure. And could only be used during a certain time of day when the earth and structure met up.)

Our reality is complete Lie, as is our history...it goes so deep that it supercedes money and politics, it goes beyond what we think it even means to be truly decieved. And of course, best of all, it's been right in front of us to see all along. To get you to understand this, I must first ask of you to look up the mud flood cover up, there was a massive event that took place just as recently as a couple hundred years ago.. have you heard of the previous global civilization of Tartaria? Most likely not because it has been completely removed from our history books and even maps, what remains is there old archetecture, look up their Star Forts and star cities. And these structures are massive and can be found all over the world. Mainstream narrative will calls these "forts" but it's complete nonesense... See for yourself these absolutely massive symettrical master pieces of infrastructure. How is it that all over the world these exist despite difference in culture and nations etc. Yet have the same archetecture and star cities/forts and designs... it's because at some point the world was already unified as one, the current rulers of today have covered them up and broken up the world up into all these different nations, divide and conquer at the highest level. All governments are in on this secret, because they all aide in not revealing the true history of these buildings. Hence why alot of the old world Tartarians massive buildings are either labeled as Cathedrals, Monasterys or government related buildings or libraries etc... Listen I know this may seem far fetched but please look into it. You may have to use Bitchute, but please I beg of you to have a brief search on the mud flood, mud flood windows, star forts, star cities, and Tartary/Tartaria. We must first start with our true history first so we can better understand all the reason for governments all lying to us simultaneously.. because they all know what occured in the past and strive everyday to keep us from it. Much love but this veil has to be revealed. "Truth is stranger than fiction'''

@M11TS well thats if there is no risk management. I would think a project of that scale would have a risk management team thinking of things like stabilizer thrusters etc. A space elavator would likely have some kind of A.I. controlling thrusters that stabilize the top while sensing the structural stressors occuring to the body from winds and drag. Though both disasters would be horrifying, I agree.

Fun fact when it becomes real: 1) the top deck would basically be a geo stationary satellite. Because building a tower that high is practically impossible. 2) the top deck will be tethered to a floating platform that can be moved, the tethering cable has to be built using a material that has to be yet invented/ innovated. 3) it has to be tethered to a movable platform because of space debris, just like how ISS has a virtual box of movable space. 4) Finally, space tourism would become cheaper due to virtually infinite reusability unlike the rockets. 5) It’d become 100s of times cheaper to put payload to orbit as well as to launch rockets to other heavily bodies since the first stage to reach escape velocity is the most fuel consuming and weight requiring due to the presence of atmosphere and gravity.
