While I'd stop short of calling it fun I remember doing it with mules and an old Jonny Popper! Still it is always a good feeling getting it done with friends, worth the work and a priceless reward. Great to have all the new equipment but I wouldn't trade them for all my memories of doing it the hard way which has given me a real love for all the new toys. Thanks for sharring!

We use skidding tongs a lot. I think Guy's set is even bigger than my biggest set. You kinda get the 'knack' of finding the balance point with one try don't you. But kinda like Old Dawg Dreaming and a few others said...I was thinking a team of horses, ramps and log wagon. LOL. But then Guy ain't THAT old is he.... You know, everything evolves into newer technology, but it is a good thing to know, understand and remember what things evolve from. Another awesome video showing kindly neighbors helping one another. Thank you GP. You guys ROCK and so does Koda.

I’m not sure if it would be called old school or ancient history, but a cross-cut saw would have been be fun to see in your arsenal of old-school equipment! I own two of them - and have tried cutting with them - and all I can say is that I have nothing but massive respect for those that logged this land with them. I tried cutting with it several times ... as a one man job I ran out of breath in about two minutes, and might have lasted 5 minutes with two men on the saw... and I was in pretty decent shape at that time! Those loggers pulled those saws from daylight till dusk - which left no doubt why the most important employee in any logging camp was the cook!!

LOL. Good morning Dave! So funny, Guy has two of them and we actually talked about pulling the big one out and using it. Yup, you and me both. Big respect for them. Have a good weekend. I imagine you are turning the heat on in the cab now. Forecast is calling for about a foot of snow this coming week. Keep warm!
@profdave2861
4 жыл бұрын
GP Outdoors cab heat will be on for sure, Gord! I’m pretty much done working at the bush lot for the season so my tractor work is now at home, and managing snow will be the main activity. The 30’ trailer I have on the 100 acres is great but by deep winter the little furnace just can’t keep up. I try to do day trips but without being there regularly in the winter to keep the lane clear, access is limited to snowmobile. Even if I could get in with the tractor to work in the bush before the snow gets too deep, for the foreseeable future we have to stick close to home to care for an aging parent. Hopefully the new cabin will get underway next year and we’ll have all season use of the 100 acres - and for a reminder of how feeble I am, maybe I’ll give that crosscut saw another try LOL!! Best wishes to you and your family, and have fun playing in the snow!

It is amazing that how much easier a tractor can make things. Imagine using a wheel barrow to get that wood out of the forest. Then some attachmetns for the tractor really simplify things. I had someone tell me that they were not getting a bunch of attachments for their tractor because you can only do one things with them. I thought with out attachments, a tractor is about useless.

I couldn't imagine working like that back in the day. Wow. My Grandparents logged with horses and neither one lived a long life. They worked hard and done a lot of damage to themselves. Both were arthritic and walked with a stoop, and needed assistance in their later years. I'm so thankful that we are much better off and don't have to work like they did. Not only work but, time's were hard back then too. The Great Depression, two World Wars, can you imagine some of the things they lived through. Wow. Thanks GP, as always I enjoyed this.

Hey GP, nice work with the logging winch! Unrelated question... I’m about to ‘pull the trigger’ on my tractor purchase. I’ve watched most of your videos and I’ve been impressed with your B2601. I’m tempted to go with the B2650 as it’s very little extra cost.. Did you happen to consider the 2650? What drove your purchase of the 2601? Thanks in advance, Mark in Oregon
@GPOutdoors
4 жыл бұрын
Good morning Mark. Exciting time for you! I would go with the 2650 if you can. A couple more inches of ground clearance, little more weight and capacity. I went with the B2601 because my dealer recommended it based on my property and the things I would be doing with it. Still 100% happy but there has been times when I could have used more capacity. Only a few times mind you, but always good to get more power if it is in the budget. Good luck and let me know how it goes from time to time. Cheers and good luck!

@@GPOutdoors I have a set that I bought from Northern tool back when they were still Northern Hydraulics. They have replaceable tips on them. Problem is, you can't buy the tongs anymore. Can't imagine that I could ever wear them out but you never know. They work great with the way that I have my splitter set up now. I show in one of the videos how big the sections of logs that I use them to bring to the splitter. I have a white oak log that is 36inches in diameter.
