Would you guys ever do a video on investing vs paying off your mortgage faster? If you can only do one? From what I've seen investing over mortgage seems to be the right decision? Similar with landlording vs investing if you can only do one?

This is actually really comforting to watch, having everyone confess their own mistakes. So odd that we all look back now and feel regret over them, though while we were or are making those mistakes, we're happy as anything.

My biggest financial mistake is not knowing about a stocks and shares ISA, that offered pre made blended funds for lost cost fees like Vanguard does. I was always taught the value of staying out of debt, saving, the value of property investing, but never about stocks investing that even dummies can do. If only I knew about the rule of 72 at age 18!

I was soooo dumb when I turned 18, no financially sense and took loans out left right and centre and just blew it all. Now 30, recovering from a DRO and now training to become a chartered accounting 👌🏻

My daughter who’s recently started uni, has friends there who were telling her they were getting credit cards and had bank overdrafts so they can spend money. I’ve taught my daughter to never get into debt and overdrafts are same as cc, they’re debt. She said a lot of them have already used up their £1k overdrafts. It’s sickening.

Doing the ACA now after spending 8 years at uni to get a PhD in an unrelated field. While I acknowledge the skill set and development I got from my time at university, the point about degrees that don’t pay off hits home. If I’d had the sense to go straight into AAT at 18, I would’ve been chartered by 23, not starting the ACA at 26!

I worked at River Island & shopped like a drunken sailor. We also just started doing store cards which we were forced to push, we were also told to pre-tick the PPI box. I didn't do well with sign ups thankfully as I didn't think it was moral to do but I can only imagine how many lives were affected negatively by it...😔 I have now learned a lot about money management & investing through Instagram & KZitem. Keep up the good work, we need you both.

The way I hollered at some of these made my day, credit cards definitely bane of my 20s lol but we move. I had something similar happen to me that happened to Mary but for me it was they switched my student account to a paying current account and I was charged £5 a month and I didn't even know until I couldn't get a credit application.

Brilliant video! Felt more bonded to THP community hearing these! My biggest mistake was falling for the Credotrade trading scam a few years ago. Lost just under £20K... 😅... BUT I wouldn't have started investing if that didn't happen as it led to me doing loads of research. I have much more than that £20K invested now and more importantly, I have gained a LOT of knowledge wealrh so I'd definitely say the Stupid Tax I paid was well worth it! 😅 🙈 🤣

@@TheHumblePenny Yes, it's weird - most people would have assumed that the stock market is bad and they should run away but I knew that it was the people who were bad and the type of investing they were doing (at least partly). It's in keeping with who I am, though - I did my driving test a few times yet only passed after me and my friend (who was driving) were in a car crash that should have made me want to avoid the road! 😅 I think surviving crazy things empowers me - I'll call it the "Could've died, didn't... What the heck; let me LIVE!" philosophy! 🤣

This was very informative. We all make mistakes, especially in our younger years.Retail therapy was my go to when I started working at 16 and got my first job. It wasn't until my mid twenties that my friend who is also a Christian, started telling me about budgeting and using our money for the glory of God. I don't actually know how I lived before then! Budgeting soothes my soul, I know exactly how much is coming in and going out! Being married now, I completely agree with you, ask those questions about money. I asked my husband when we were still courting, so I KNEW what I was getting into.

I feel like teenagers were targeted by credit card companies certainly when when I was young. I hit 18 and the letters just started flooding through the door that looked so appealing also as a novice 17% to 23% interest isn't a scary number. I bought a bmw for £13,000 put 200k miles on it over a good few years and sold it for £750 got good use out of it but still 😔 I refuse to even buy a car unless I need it to get to work and I'll buy the cheapest reliable car humanly possible.

In took a loan for a hi-fi system in the 90s, a ridiculous purchase on my income. Little did I know they had added some kind of ppi, which at least I realised and canceled. They refunded me the cost of it upfront, and it was added to the loan. Needless to say it was a worthless purchase. I think my worst decision was being mis sold an endowment mortgage on my early 20s, didn't understand the mechanics, and 3 years later when ex and I sold, place had doubled in value but due to the endowment I only got about £3k in profit after all fees, and my ex had paid off all his debt. Crazy when I think of how much that cash could have helped me.

The mistake i made in 2019 was to pay for a flight with my Debit card which isn't covered by the Consumer credit Act Section 75, unlike the Credit Card which is covered and you can get a full refund. Also its best to go through an agent as its easier to contact them instead of having to go through an Airline, especially if it has its office Overseas.

Personally do not think leasing or financing a car is a particular bad trait. A reliable car which is within your budget is needed by everyone in order to get to work safely and on time. If you purchase a car that is excessive to your financial position then yes I fully agree.

Good video Ken and Mary like always I have a dilemma/question maybe you can help me with. So i will give you scenario and i would love your advice on that scenario or advice on the next step please. I am a late 20s male, and me and the wife have just bought our first home. No car debt/no credit card debt etc etc You have a good amount of excess money as you have deleted unnecessary luxuries (thanks to having the same mindset like you two have and watching your videos to get that mindset) What would you do with your disposable income? Would you save it? Would you invest or pay into retirement? Would you pay extra mortgage payments? Or would you make money with money? (Lets say you had £2000) What would you do first or should I say which path would you take in that scenario? P.s My only pass time/hobby is cars. So i am resisting buying a new toy for myself as I downgraded to a cheap diesel run around for the house situation. Thank you for your reply/video reply

Interesting watch as always. I can relate with the retail worker experience as I worked in Harrods for 3 years. However, I had good self control and in the 3 years I only bought one designer dress worth £170 on staff discount. Till today I still have that dress and have never worn it 😅😅. Not alot of money to lose though but I'm still pained 😂
