Thanks a lot sir, I've completed my L1,2,3 electrical diploma, also EAL Initial verification + test inspec. Now I'm about to do my NVQ L3. I'm not fully qualified but I do tests after I finish rewiring with my boss. I tend to forget some tests as I'm new but whenever I'm stuck I look back to this vid and it helps refresh my mind.

Good effort on building your own test rig. Just a few tips though... It's a bad idea to be using a power driver like that on consumer units. Get yourself a torque driver or at least have the feel of a manual screwdriver. Also you need to disconnect at least one end of your bonding conductors to prove continuity. Definitely going the extra mile though! 😀

Don't know if someone already mentioned but you have to test on the proving unit, then prove dead, then retest on the proving unit. If you don't do it this way you'll fail that part.

Wrong , you can prove your voltage indicator on a known source ie the incoming side of the main switch or a proving unit , most centres will allow this . As it is made clear in GS38 and BS7671. As well as the electricity at work regulations. What he did here was prove his voltage indicator on the incoming side of the RCD as the is being used as the main switch he then proved it on his proving unit totally pointless it one or the other. He repeated this after his proved dead . Secondly you should not prove continuity with a voltage indicator as you have to record the reading witch should be 0.5 ohms or less. You can only do this with a low ohm meter or an MFT .

Good stuff, thanks. Useful to get a recap on this stuff, as it's not every day I'm doing DB testing. Perhaps in the future you could edit this video with some simple voice over just stating what you are testing eg, line to CPC, to check for continuity.. might make it even more useful. Thanks

After your level 3, did you manage to find a job as an electrician mate or something? Could you explain me your pathways, as i want to do my level 2 this year and then move onto level 3 next year. I was thinking of getting a cscs card to work on site next year, i am wondering whats the game plan for this? As i am new to this.

Hi Russ I need your honest advice, I done a level 2 electrical installation course 6years ago back in college, now infant to get back into it, I am thinking of doing a level 3 course, but my question is do I need to redo level2 again? Or shall just get straight back into level 3 and really put my head down?

Depends how confident you feel, but if you managed the level 2 without any problems then go straight to level 3

I would apply to larger electrical firms which run training schemes, they may take you on initially on an apprentice basis where you can start to get some experience. Be prepared for lots of rejections but keep knocking on doors and one will open. Good luck

Unbelievable. So much nonsense. Just switch all the brakers on and see if everything is working. If not investigate....makes me sick. I hate when they make space science out of common sense. Waste of time for electricians and students and money for training centres. And then them qualified electrician pretend to be very smart. Three wires, few switches and sockets and studying extended to enormous extent.

You're the reason why the industry has to do all this, why the pay grade is crap - "don't worry bro I can do it cheaper just bang it in and it works mate", bet you also put PVC cables with no UV protection in a garden to power a non IP rated socket or just throw cables in the loft "no one looks in here bro, who cares" or how about putting a 32amp breaker on a lighting circuit "it just works bro, no need to do all that science-y stuff". Do us all a favour and stfu no one asked for your opinion on these courses just because we take pride in our work and do a course whether its expensive or not it's non of your business nor your problem is it...

Worked for 18 years never had a single complaint or to come back to the client unless for extra work. The reason they create all them regulations is because of the dumb ass lazy bolox people who simply neglectful. 🙄. Other point is that even if testing is bang on it doesn't mean all the terminals are sound. You should be checking your instalation on max current and then with thermal camera see if its all good.

@@andrewgetwin You just said the same thing I did people who don't have half a brain 🧠 haven't got a clue, this is why these courses exist they may be expensive but they are not useless or pointless it's training to change a bad industry that is rife with cowboys chucking stuff in because it works. I'm glad you have your head screwed on to never of had a problem but a lot of people do not know what they are doing and bad things have happened because of it.
