1. The Attila the Hun-led nomads did penetrate the Roman Empire in the 5th century but after Attila died in 453AD, the Hun bandits returned to the Volga region and they had nothing to do with the much later-arrived Hungarians even though they, like the Finns, Turks, Mongols, belong to the same linguistic group styled as Ural-Altaic; 2. In the 9th century, another Asiatic nomad Magyar tribe invaded Europe and settled in the more or less present day Hungary and in 1000AD, the tribal nation became christened and accepted by the Pope as a nation of Europe;3. The Hungarians call themselves a nation of the Magyars( Magyar-Orszag). The western name Hungary originated in the names of two legendary Magyar founding brothers Hunor and Magor !4. The Magyars have kept their Finno-Ugric language but mixed in blood with local west Slavs and later Germans, Latin Romanians, Turks! So as a non Indo-European language, their surname comes ahead of given name ! 5. Except for the language, some nomadic customs and costumes, Hungary has generally been an Europeanized catholic nation !
