When I first got to Lake Winnipeg, I did not have a lot of expectations. I did not know what it would be like. In my preparations, I had focused on the safety aspects of paddling a big lake, cause I had never done that before... I also studied the topo maps of the lake but on paper it is all just simple lines.... I looked at average weather conditions, depth maps, water quality and those kind of things... In my first two days in the open, I got to experience the true character of vast Lake Winnipeg. What a incredibly beautiful place this is! Everything was absolutely stunning from the sunrise at night to the abundant wildlife that hides within the islands and rocky coves as well as on the beaches and from the Eastern shore, the sunsets we astounding. And a immense part of these shores are completely wild and mostly untouched still. I'm very glad I tagged a part of this magnificent shoreline on to my already amazing solo trip.
