Many thanks for the video. For me a M7 holder I think it’s fabulous being able to talk to others further away from my QTH through the south west cluster where my 2M handheld wouldn’t reach.

Thanks for this. Like so many old duffers, I thought most digital required Internet. I appreciate being disabused of that notion.

Ian Ecellent, as always. Thank you for doing this video. It was yor videos amongst others that let me to C4fm. Never looked back and it made my return to amateur radio much more enjoyable. Now running amongst others Winlink Express and Vara HF. Whisper also a wonderful digital mode. Ian, thank you again for yr time and effort. The video quality is excellent and I pay tribute to you for producing them. BTW.. check out the Monitor Sensors PWR and SWR METER from Australia. Want to measure 20 milli watt to 2KW? As reliable as the legendary Bird 43..but NO slugs to buy. I've reviewed it on eham. Best 73.. Albert

Excellent explanation as always Ian, there are always so many channels available for Digital Simplex QSO contacts in real radio. You have to listen to a QSO to appreciate the audio quality.

Simple and to the point. It’s just radio. No different to FM or SSB in its simplest form

Long overdue and as always a superb presentation. Long live Fusion and the Wires X network so lets give a Special welcome to all those newcomers and the new Fusion Groups springing up throughout the UK. Music to my ears.

Eyup Ian and Linda. I’ve wanted a clear answer to this as I’ve been thinking about buying a C4FM radio. My only problem is the folk who link to to the internet and talk to DX and then write for a QSL card. Radio to radio, sure. Not via a node or internet linked repeater. Hope you’re both well, love from me and Wendy.

Hi Kev! The old DX by repeater thing doesn't really happen any more. In reality, Fusion networks tend to be grouped. NWFG has several repeaters and gateways linked together to expand the reach of the network. I have done a video on this on the channel. We get occasional calls in from outside the UK and the north west but it's mainly the north west and we don't send QSL cards ;). It's a friendly bunch. Love to you and Wendy from us both.

I must admit it took some convincing to put a repeater on for North West Fusion Group but I can honestly say I have met some of the nicest amateurs on there. Many have become firm friends over the last couple of years.

"REAL RADIO" is just another case of people who fetishize older systems of communication and are resistant to newer methods. AM made spark-gap radio obsolete, so spark-gap users complained about it. SSB reduced the importance of AM, so the users of AM complained. Users of morse code complained about phone. AM users also complained about FM. HF users complained about VHF and UHF. The list goes on and on. This is a complaint from analogue users who don't want to learn the new digital techniques, which are freely open for anyone to learn and use.

Digital modes are great, yet using the internet as an "ANTENNA" for a given digital mode ( or other ) is not what this wireless hobby is all about. Seek digital mode over the internet?, try your digital phone, much cheaper.

Thanks for the comment. I did not mention gateways on this video apart from to say they were not used for the simplex net so I am not sure how it pertains to this post?

Finally someone noticed! I try to leave a deliberate mistake in each video in an attempt to distract viewers from the subject matter. I am amazed nobody got this one until now! Top marks :)
