I grew up in Athèns and moved away (but not far) when I was in my 20's and absolutely treasure my visits back. There's no downtown area anywhere that compares to Athens. I'm in my later mid 50s now and still love that college feel you get when visiting. And there is absolutely nothing like Athens on a Georgia home gameday. GO DAWGS

OK, a couple of things about this video: - Love the video and particularly love seeing how obviously beaming Sarah is to be back in our old college town. That was a delight. - OK, I’m confused. Did she post this once already or did I have some weird prophetic dream about this video for things?! I remember hearing about the tree, the car going around it, the burritos, and the bakery shop. Wha? But it says you just posted this and I don’t see it on your timeline. Lol. - having spent many many years living in a university town, where I also went to school, I can relate to lots of what you’re saying. In fact, my favorite time was when all the other students left, and it was nice and quiet, even if I had to work every spring break in every summer. - when I was in school there just weren’t that many food places to go to in general but as it was, all we could afford, was splitting a yogurt ice cream sandwich at the end of every semester anyway. That was it! - But, yes, there were a lot of bars, until in the end, I found it annoying because anytime anything closed, sure enough, it was another obligatory bar! - it must’ve been fun going to a school that actually had a good/excellent football team. Ours was rubbish! In fact, none of my friends even watched it or had any idea how they were doing because they were that bad plus most of us didn’t grow up watching those sports anyhow. - Is Athens considered a fairly inexpensive town or has it rocketed in price, particularly real estate? That is what we saw in our college town to now it’s pretty much only affordable for most people professions. - we did end up with a lot of coffee shops and a cool artisan bakery so I’d love that. Those treats look divine. - Athena is def on the bucket list for one day. Whenever I get to go, years from now, I can come back here and check out your links, hoping they still apply. Lol. Thanks for the vicarious travel. Fun as always.❤

hey there! so good to hear from you. :) If you follow us on Instagram then you probably already saw us talking about the tree, burritos, and bakeshop! I posted all those on Insta in live time back when we were there a few weeks ago. Athens is certainly a fun little city! Prices have definitely gone up but given that Georgia is already a pretty affordable state the rates aren't that bad compared to many other college towns. That being said, it's getting harder and harder for the locals to afford the city as more investors move in. :/ Still a wonderful town that keeps getting better with age!

This video just popped up on my feed 💖💖💖 I guess Georgia is on everyone’s mind nowadays 🗳🇺🇸🗳🙃🙂 Yes… I agree with Sara, taking a pause at the 4:44 minute mark… to say, #GoGeorgiaBulldogs💖 ❤️🖤🤍💖 I lived in Athens when I attended the Navy’s Supply Corps Officer, Basic Qualification Course, when the training school was located in Athens, near the University 💖🇺🇸💖🇺🇸💖 No matter your reason for being there, there’s truly a magical feel about that town, that you will always treasure!! #GeorgiaPride 🇺🇸 🍑🇺🇸 As a fellow Supply Corps Officer, 🪶 I wish Georgia’s Congressman, Andrew Clyde would lobby to have the #BQC training school relocated back to Athens, even sponsor a scholarship ROTC program with UGA’s Business Department… #Passing the baton, delegating new fiscal responsibilities and accountability to our young college students… as they earn a direct commission in our Navy. #GoNavy💖 🇺🇸⚓️🇺🇸💖

There's nothing I'm aware of close to downtown. You'll have to go to Cleveland (north) to the KOA which is about 20-25 minutes from downtown depending on traffic, but it's not far once you get off the interstate.
@annh.

KZitem won't let me edit. I'm adding that Raccoon Mountain is probably closer to downtown. I'm not sure if the campground is on the mountain or at the foot of the mountain. That might be something to consider.
@chrisandsara
Жыл бұрын
Hi Valerie! Ann is right, there aren't a lot of options too close to downtown. Unfortunately the best campground option is Raccoon Mountain if your goal is to be close to the city. If you're willing to drive about 30 minutes to downtown you should checkout Cloudland Canyon State Park. It's beautiful and the mountain is so nice! Bonus is that the mountain is usually about 3-5 degrees cooler than the valley in the summer. :) If you're a member of Harvest Hosts you might want to check that out. It looks like there's a brewery and maybe one home from Boondockers Welcome out there. Good luck and enjoying Chattanooga!

Georgia boy my whole life, but I have never been to Athens. Warm Spring Ga and Bell Buckle Tn are the only two college towns I have been to knowing it was a college town. Warm Springs because I was originally going to go to college there but changed to Chattanooga State, an years later Bell Buckle as a adult leader for the fire explorers spending a weekend in the Tn Fire Academy. Though my home of Trenton is a college town I guess. We have Covenant College on Lookout and the Southeastern Lineman Training Center in the valley. But it does not feel like a college town.

When has Bell Buckle, TN ever been considered a college town?
@RebelCowboysRVs
Жыл бұрын
@@annh. I guess its a matter of how you define it. But the only reason I know the town exists is because the fire academy is there. At least in address anyway. I think thats common to firemen. Forsyth Georgia is Georgia's equivalent. The town name is used as a synonym for the academy. People do not say they went to the fire academy, they say they went to Forsyth, or they went to Bell Buckle. Atleast thats been my experience. My hometown of Trenton is that for Linemen. I can be out of state an tell people i'm from Trenton Georgia an they will have no idea where that is. But a lineman will know exactly where it is, anywhere in the country. High odds hes been here. Trenton generally does not call itself a college town, but they call us that.

😂 Waco is a great town, too! I mean, it's not Athens, but it'll do. 😉 Most universities are pretty strict about filming on campuses unfortunately. Understandably though... especially at big schools like UGA and Baylor where sports are big and their dealing with commercial filming with sources like ESPN who would want free reign of the campus. 😬

It's a shame we are not allowed to watch the views of the University of Georgia campus because you need permission to show and payment of rights as well. It's a wonderful campus, we can tell. The images of it would be a tremendous merchandise for the University. So, why not let people film it? Big shame!
@chrisandsara
Жыл бұрын
It really is a beautiful campus! I wish we could have shown it!! Most colleges and universities are that way because many of the places on campuses are trademarked. I'd venture to guess that another reason they don't like cameras on campus is because it can interrupt the atmosphere for the students who are there to study. Also, when you're working with a big university like UGA you have think that they're really putting these rules in place for outlets like ESPN who want free run of the campus on game day. :/
