Barbara is amazing but was away and so here is a recorded version of her playing violin superbly.
The song was written in the 1980's when the future in the UK looked bleak and people were really suffering in the first of two recessions. Pressure was on, get a normal job, settle down, get a mortgage before housing became unaffordable, conform and live a normal life. Sounds familiar?
Pretty much where the UK has been for the last 14 years.....
This was my first release and can be found here on Spotify (and all other music platforms):

The lyrics can be found here:
CHORUS:
Cradled in depravity,
You feed on inadequacy
Make the most of deprivation
You wallow in humiliation
VERSE 1:
Greyness invades all our lives
Some just live to survive
That’s not for me and you
We’ll find something better to do
BRIDGE: Cradle x 2
VERSE 2:
Don’t you look that way at me
You don’t understand, you just cant see
I’m living my life my way
I don’t care what you say
BRIDGE:
CHORUS
VERSE 3:
You think you’re doing so well
But you make my life a hell
Forgive is something I can’t do
Not for the likes of you
BRIDGE:
CHORUS
Middle 8:
Cradle x5
BRIDGE:
CHORUS
Cradle x 4
VERSE 4:
Forcing smiles out of your mouth
When all you want to do is shout
You never ask what it’s for
But you always go back for more
I see the world at your feet
I want the poor to eat
We’ll tear your structures apart
Put it right at last
Greyness invades all our lives
Some just live to survive
That’s not for me and you
We’ll find something better to do
