I was getting ready for work and heard “Jack was the name of a baboon who HATED double amputee railway signalman.....” and I thought “What the hell did I just hear?!” I listened to it again and it was cleared up, I had to laugh though. The idea of this baboon hating this unfortunate man with seemingly no provocation and it leading up to a story worth mentioning in a historical facts video seemed pretty hilarious

An absurd historical fact that I know is the Battle of the Eclipse from the 6th century BC. The ancient Medes and Lydians had been at war for six years when a solar eclipse happened over a battle they were having. They took it as a sign that the gods were angry with them, so they made peace afterwards.

An additional interesting couple of facts about the Victorian practice of photographing the dead. Firstly, they did not just photograph the deceased - living subjects would also often be in the picture often making a family portrait. Second - you can identify the deceased in the photograph as their face and body will be the clearest. Quite often, the living subjects in the picture may have a slight blurring of their face and body. This is because the exposure time was quite long and, the only subject to remain still long enough for the picture to be taken would be the deceased.

@11:25 in the United States a lot of the unexploded ordinances they find are leftovers from the civil war. Most of which are the first first generation of grenades as well as exploding cannonballs. They are found a lot more often than you would imagine especially when magnet fishing which myself and a group of people have actually found three grenades in a Creek in Louisiana that were from the civil war. And that triggered a set of events that ended up with an ambulance probably a dozen police officers and a bomb squad from 200 mi away coming out to This Little Creek to explode these grenades after they were away at a safe distance.

Here's one, but I classify it as sad but also inspiring: after the death of his wife and daughter, Neil Peart, drummer for the Canadian progressive rock band Rush, told bandmates Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee "consider me retired" at his wife's funeral. After this, he went on a long sabbatical to mourn and reflect. In this sabbatical, he traveled extensively throughout North and Central America, covering 88,000km, or 55,000mil. After the journey, Peart returned to the band and wrote a book about his journey.

About the UXBs in the U.S., and I am not making this up -- Japanese schoolgirls during WWII were put to work making balloon bombs after school. These balloons were sent to waft over the western part of the country, where they were expected to explode and create fires. Only one ever caused any damage, but it was nasty. In 1945, a preacher and his wife took some kids out for a picnic, and they found a balloon bomb under some bushes. The children, being childishly curious, went to investigate, and the bomb went off. It killed the woman, who was pregnant, and all five children. There are thousands of these weapons still around.

Pronunciation: your pronunciation is more accurate than you may believe. There are rules for pronunciation that few people are aware of but you are following them fairly well compensating for differences in accent. You think the Hapsburgs are bad? The Ptolemaic Dynasty are so so much worse. Ptolemy also hated his sister and for her birthday sent her a present of their son's dismembered body. Hawaii officially became a US state in 1959, it was only a US territory during WWII and therefore not actually the US. It does defeat the joke I made a wee bit, mind you. Furthermore the Second World War had been raging for over 2 years by the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, so it wasn't the start by any means, it was closer to halfway if anything.
