How the hell did Dr. Who get on this list? How is a character that originally started off as a white man, continually respawns as white man, and might have respawns as a white man wrong? By the way, I'm a black man and I grew up in the 70's and 80's and I experienced my fair share of racism, though compared to the 60's on back, why damn near benign and I had absolutely no problem with the character constantly played by a white man, especially considering the time when it started and when it reached its peak. Most of us who watched Dr. Who back up til now understood that the character became a part of our modern myth as a white man. I mean who of us would be happy with batman being played as anyone else other than a white man? Who of us would be happy if wonder woman was played as anyone other than a white woman? Who of us would be happy if Blade or Luke Cage or Black Panther would be played as anyone other than a black man? Etc. Now, dont get me wrong, if they would have done it right, maybe it could have worked with the Dr. being played as a woman, but they decided to make it all about her being a woman that's the Dr., and not about the Dr. that just happens to be a woman. There is a difference between the two. Also, I dont see that as being very progressive when all the did was replace a white man, with a BLONDE white woman. Next to certain groups complaining that too many "white men" are getting the roles, white women (specifically blonde) dominate Hollywood too and those certain groups dont seem to have a problem with that. You cant completely compare today's standards with the past. You guys missed the mark on this one, Mike and you are bordering on the "woke" side of things. You guys made that slip up a few times in the past. Be wary of going too far out either way...

The fact they didn't bring up shows like All in the Family or Married with Children makes me think that this list wasn't really thought out that well by whoever did their research. Both those shows are considered pretty offensive today to the type of people who get "offended" by things and they weren't mentioned yet other shows that are considered way less offensive like Dragnet & Dr. Who were brought up doesn't make much sense. Some of the shows they brought up do make sense but others don't. Most of the stuff you brought up is all true and also a lot of the things they called "inappropriate" seem more "unrealistic" more than anything... I think whoever did the research for this one was either drunk at the wheel or they were somewhat trolling.

But I think with Dr Who, the reasoning given by the doctor is that it is harder for the doctor to get help, help others and do things in society when they appear as a gender or ethnicity or colour that is less socially advantaged during world history. There are VERY few times through the history of planet earth that white men have been any kind of undesirable/attacked group. It does happen, but it is rare. So in order to be the most use to an Ignorant species like us... it makes sense to camouflage as the most popular model.

I agree. The fact that the Doctor was always a white male was not in any way inappropriate. When Mike mentioned _Doctor Who_ I thought they were going down the racism line, which _was_ inappropriate. Black characters tended to be shown as mentally deficient, neanderthal-like or even mute, such as in _The Evil of the Daleks_ or _The Tomb of the Cybermen._ Things were even worse with the horrendous yellow face in _The Talons of Weng Chiang._ I find it strange that they decided to focus on the white male thing rather than those other glaring issues.

Happy days? Really? Did you ever research what the racial demographics of Milwaukee in the 1950s were? Here, I'll help: predominantly white and middle class. Crazy how research and historical knowledge could help with not being triggered.

The thing about Happy Days: it was set in the 50's so segregation was to be expected. They did do an episode where Fonzi found a black drummer for their band which highlighted the racism of the day.

The reason no one noticed that Midsomer Murders was so monochromatic is that the premise of each episode was usually so over the top bizzare you spent the entire time trying to figure out what was going on, one episode involved murdering people over a pudding club, another had children tracking down dogs trying to match one to a murderer. The series is so rediculous it's hypnotic.

I have never seen such a blatantly judgmental epitome of political correctness. I have not seen such an absurdly filled egocentric subjective and personal prejudice presentation in my 72 years of existence on this planetary sphere. Tell the writer of this abject drivel to get a life...one which does not involve writing scripts masquerading as objective discourse. Cheers; however, to the narrator and film crew who could not even keep a straight face while presenting this trash.

A little constructive criticism: It really isn't reasonable to judge if a show from the distant past was appropriate or not through today's. mores. I agree a show like Heil Honey I'm Home should never have seen the light of day, or a minstrel show. But The Dukes of Hazzard? Even now it is pretty harmless fun, if the biggest complaint is a Confederate flag that's pretty sketchy. But in the 80s no one thought twice about it. Even now, I don't think people see it as a big deal. These guys were just about having fun. There were others where the reasoning was flimsy. Dr. Who? Dragnet? Happy Days? Come on I KNOW y'all are better than this. Where you missed big time were shows that were inappropriate when they aired Perfect example: The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer. That show was reviled when it aired and is still notorious. Homeboys In Outer Space was really poor taste too. Who Wants To Marry A Multi Millionaire. Easily you could have found 25 shows inappropriate when they aired. And that is why I'm disappointed. All that said I'm still glad you did this. And it does seem like others liked it. But a lot didn't. This was not one of your better lists but I'm still a fan of the channel. Keep at it. PS The Donald impersonation slays me every single time.

My son loved Dora The Explorer so much that he once took my car key and hid it. He then said we had to follow the Map to find it. His father and I followed the Map, but the key was not where the Map said it was. By that time, our son forgot where he had actually hidden the key. Fortunately, we had a spare key to the car. A few years later, we found the key in the bottom of an unused drawer :) Fun times!!

The Dukes of Hazzard actually did not defy the laws of physics. It was not special effects when the car was swerving around corners or flying over things, it was really really experienced stunt drivers. So the stunts weren't actually impossible, just incredibly difficult. From what I was told, it was all real (or at least the majority of it). There actually wasn't really a good way to fake it at the time, so it had to be real stunt driving. (Sorry if I sound rude at all. I don't mean to. Just pointing out what I was told)

To be fair with Baywatch, they needed more stories other than beach rescues... however if you watch Bondi rescue - you will see that both male and female lifeguards do wear skintight swimming gear because it allows them to cut through water faster... also the amount of stuff you have to do to be a bondi lifeguard is nuts - those guys can do triathalons with no issue.

Two of the shows I grew up on were All in the Family and its spinoff The Jefferson's. I'm surprised you didn't include them as, at the time, there was all kind of controversy over them. As for All in the Family, I remember an outtake after Sammy Davis Jr kissed Archie on the cheek when a picture was being snapped and the outtake right after that when Archie gave a full lip lock to Sammy.

Two things: 1. About half of the shows mentioned came from the other side of the pond. 2. Most of the shows you mentioned aren't so much as controversial as they unrealistic. One other factoid you left out from the Grizzly Adams series is that he also was friendly with a raccoon too. Raccoons are known for carrying rabies & can do some serious damage. That's one the shows that falls in the unrealistic, but not controversial category. The same for Dragnet, The A-Team, & Dora the Explorer.

Those were great shows! I loved those shows. All In The Family was a different type of comedy in the late 70s to bring social issues to the forefront. That was its purpose. Three’s Company and Bosom Buddies were completely appropriate for the time they were produced. And very funny. A couple of really great actors got their start in Three’s Company. Tom hanks got his start in Bosom Buddies.

@@rowynnecrowley1689 Remember when these shows were aired originally. It didn’t occur to them that they were making fun of anyone. I thought they were funny, and it didn’t occur to me that they were making fun of anyone, it also didn’t occur to me that transvestites had anything to do with anything. I just thought the guys were dressing up as women to get into the woman’s hotel. That was the point. I had never heard of a transvestite.

Don't forget the senior favorite "Gunsmoke" from the 50s - 70s!! Aside from all the "Western violence" there was the highly watered down for TV fact that Kitty Russell was running a brothel by the name of The Long Branch!! I was in an argument with someone over this that was trying to knock a modern show for being "inappropriate" and they didn't believe me so I had to share a great article on it! "Dance hall girls" that really danced! Horrors!!!
