If any of her students needed to go between bathroom breaks, she would make them hold it and told them they should have went during the last break. Found out later that practically every child in her class had on at least one occasion (in most cases 2 or 3 times) wet themselves because she wouldn't let them use the bathroom outside of scheduled bathroom breaks. Parents would then either bring them a change of clothes or just pick them up. Then they would have to sit in the office where everyone could see them in their wet pants. Thankfully last we heard she no longer teaches children and was in fact in jail.

First, a lot of schools base their hours around parental work hours to give parents time to get to work after driving their children to school but also, at some point, kids have to realize that as adults, they aren't going to get a pass for being chronically late to work. Starting my junior year, they allowed people to have their phones out during lunch, between classes, and one math teacher allowed them as calculators during class but she personally verified that they were on airplane mode. PS: That math teacher didn't allow phones as calculators during tests, only during regular class time.

I graduated high school in 1999. When I was in 7th through 9th grade, I played volleyball for my school and the coach was made to tell us that we couldn't wear popular name brands shorts/pants like umbro, Under Armor, & such bc some of the less fortunate players couldn't afford them & IF we had the name brands, we were required to cover the word &/or symbol on them. Smh We were all in shock, even the less fortunate players. Oh & I went to a public school too.

21: I had that in my first year. We had to run in circles for 10 minutes...but while everyone else ran, I walked it lol....I sure cheated the hell out of it and avoided the shower since it wasn't needed. I must say, it did work for a bit until everyone else started copying me, so then we ended up doing cross country across the waterlogged muddy fields in the thunderstorm. My classmates hated me that day and yes, I got out of it by going on the message run for one of the teachers.....

Some of these unfair rules are quite questionable, seriously? writing as punishment causes negative effects? In their earlier years they'll think of it as so but when they get to college or higher forms of learning THEY'LL thank that punishment. EVEN uniforms, it's easier to be wearing uniform and picking any clothes. PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TROUBLE PICKING CLOTHES cause in puberty WE WANT TO IMPRESS people ANOTHER THING! TARDINESS! seriously, our classes start at 6:30AM during Elementary school, guess what.. WE WAKE UP AT 5:00AM. we even cook our own breakfast BTW. THE ONLY THING THAT GETS ME MAD IS THE ISSUE ABOUT BEST FRIENDS. I ONLY HAD 4 FRIENDS in HS.

With 24 I just wanted to say that I agree with the holding back part . I believe that it’s absolutely perfectly fine to hold a child back if they aren’t meeting the level that someone their age is suppose to. I my self should have been held back but for the dumb rule that no child gets left behind I seriously had a much harder time trying to grasp the information and material that was being provided with the next grade simply becuase I barely knew/grasped/understood the previous grade’s material let alone trying to learn something new that actually stemmed off of what was taught the previous year . So for a child who frankly doesn’t care enough to do the work that is provided ( like homework and studying which is what helps you to learn the information and material that will benefit you for years to come ) like they should and then they get the marks for no reason other than “no one wants to make the poor thing cry “ then come the next school year that same kid is going to get screwed over 10x as badly as the previous year and when they hit college then they will not last and will be kicked out for failing to meet the requirements. So you say that holding a child back is horrible and unnecessary well I tell you from personal experience it’s frankly the only thing that is actually going to work in their favor .

I beg your pardon. I was held back twice in my life. Because of undiagnosed autism disorder and I was having a hard time Hollywood not assigned me extra help so I was held back in school for 2 years the amount of bullying and just crap I dealt with it because of the stupid teacher not listening to understanding that I needed extra support I went through almost 10 years of just trauma and abuse. The other kids parents would not let them hang out with me because I was considered A retard and they thought it would rub off me to there kids. So no holding back is a cruel and actually a kind of sick way to pretend you're helping a kid out

Had a 9th grade male teacher who bragged about not giving bathroom passes. Well, my previous class was at the other end of the building. I had no time to go to the bathroom without being late. I walked in. Bell rang. Students were settling down. I walked up to the teacher. "I need to go to the bathroom. I started my period." I said it loud enough where the other students heard me. Never saw someone write a bathroom pass that quickly. That was 19 years ago.

When my son was in a Spanish immersion kindergarten class, the kids, five year olds who couldn't even speak Spanish, had to ask to go to the bathroom in Spanish. I had a word with that teacher. After that my son didn't have to do it anymore. When my daughters were in highschool, their principal would stand on the sidewalk in front of the school, with a megaphone, publicly embarrassing students who were a little bit tardy after the bell had rung. She got payback though. On graduation day the year my oldest daughter graduated, the students called the principal out on her outrageous actions.

At my daughters college (High School) they weren't allowed to wear rain coats walking between teaching blocks of classroom on winter days. However they were allowed umbrellas! They had 2 types of uniforms until you were a senior and long trousers were required throughout the year for boys, both genders as seniors had to wear blazers throughout the year, to prove they were seniors. Girls had to wear flat Roman sandals during summer but no orthotic foot supports/inserts to help them walk because they would be seen. No long sleeved singlet or top under shirts during winter or be sent home. During winter girls were allowed to wear black thin nylon tights with black shoes but no socks if caught take off or go home. Or put summer sandals on. You could wear soaks with your PE Gear or a boy. Girls weren't allowed to wear trousers unless they were the boys uniform. No lockers unless you have a medical certificate renewed ever month. Breaks every 2 hours due to a change in employment law. So the teacher could take a break & the students brought it to their attention.

If I was told I couldn’t have a best friend then F the school I’d still have a best friend I just wouldn’t say it in school, or screw the school rules. Schools can’t control what you do outside of school. I’m on the fence when it comes to gum there are both pros and cons to chewing gum in class. Some of the cons my school had to gum were - the noise of people chewing gum was distracting other students and gun on the floor or under desks was un-hygienic. If anyone was caught with gum though there was no punishment they just got told to spit it in the bin.

The Flamming Hot Cheetos ban in schools is not so much for nutrition reasons, but because the students who eat them leave nasty red finger prints all over the place. Custodians all over the country protested that they were having to spend excess time scrubbing red fingerprints from walls, banisters, doorknobs, desks, lockers, and every other surface that students touched with grubby red fingers. I am a retired teacher who remembers the introduction of the red menace in the school where I taught. There is generally no ban on regular Cheetos and they have as poor nutritional value. It's just the semi permanance of the red coloring.

“Don’t forget to smile” This shouldn’t be enforced as a public rule, this will lead to someone’s mental health degrading. However, it is an excellent personal rule. You are allowed to not smile when you really can’t muster it up - but you’ll notice that when you smile you exude and energy that infects others. Emotions are infectious, when you’re sad and depressed if your support group can’t help you out of it - which they can’t anyways - you’ll end up dragging them into a depression of their own, or just exist as a mental tax on them. Showing happiness, even when faking it, however, will give off a happy energy that will make others agree with you easier, make them happier, and make life easier because smiling can get you what you want. Everyone finds someone smiling warmly to be disarming, even weirdos smiling a NICE smile, not a weird creepy smile, can make you think “oh this guy actually isn’t that bad. See? He has a nice smile, there’s no way he’s shifty, shifty people are miserable. Forced Smiling commanded by YOURSELF and not OTHERS will make your life easier, and it’ll even feel silly to you, funny. This will make a real smile form as you try to make it go away but you realize “Oh shit, me smiling is funny, that makes me laugh, that makes me smile, this makes me laugh this reinforces the smile, repeat FORCE YOURSELF TO SMILE WHEN YOU CANNOT. IT PROVES YOU CAN STILL SMILE AND HAVE SOMETHING TO BE HAPPY ABOUT SOMEWHERE IN YOUR LIFE. BEING CAPABLE OF SMILING IS SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT. Eminem doesn’t smile, and that’s pretty sad that he pretty much can’t except in certain situations. Smile more!

Dodge Ball for those who like it is great. For others it's nothing short of torture. Some kids absolutely do use it to bully others, and because it was in gym class they got away with it. Also, everyone was required to play, even those who were physically weak. For instance, I have had a heart condition since birth, but it was undiagnosed at the time. My struggle to keep up was ignored. It was hell.

I've got doctors notes and all the paperwork on his conditions in his school records. I always write an excuse when he misses school and they are not supposed to do what they are doing to someone that's disabled, they are threatening to hold him back and trying to take me to court. This school is the worst school he has ever been to. My son can't help that he is sick. He should not be treated so cruel. Oh yeah he's not supposed to run with POTS but his gym teacher doesn't care and makes him do it anyway and on those days when he gets home he is so lightheaded and pale.

Mike! I was raised Unitarian in a town that was half Jewish! The bus I took to school held 72, there were two stops for our bus and when the first one loaded the bus was 7/8 full. When it got to us we often to put three of us in one bench. When I was 15 a baby I took care of on the regular was badly burned over 2/3 of her body and she was coming home from hospital just after school let out. The family asked if I would come live with them that summer to help out with the little ones needs, and also her two older sisters. They taught me the prayers for Shabbat. I'm 59 and still remember them! Loved school on Jewish holidays, so easy!😂 There was never a problem about Christmas or Hanukkah decorations. Frankly, I think p.c. has gone too far.
