Trained on and fired these in 1980 whilst in Bristol OTC attached to 266 Battery. This instructional film took me back. I was the no.3 so was layer and firer. Also remember taking the breech apart for cleaning and checking the firing pin. The most memorable shout from the no.3 position was 'Line of Sight!!!' if anyone got between you and your sighting point/mirror while you were laying the gun.

Trained on this gun memories are mixed but not because of the gun but if we made mistakes we had to lift a shell over our head and run around the aircraft hanger. But made great mates. That was in the 1960s. Then went onto serve on 105 and the 155 but the 25 pounder will still have a special place in my heart.

Blackburn wrote 3 excellent books on the 25 pd. in action. Might be a great resource for a museum. I believe he is still alive as of 2019.

Paula, we are in the midst of re-building two right now. One as a statue, and one as a blank-firing salute gun. Friend me at Steve Kuervers on Facebook, you'll see a lot of info, and you can connect with me via messenger for emails, etc. I'd love to help.

Our museum is in the Netherlands. Our 25 pr gun is NOT allowed to fire, becouse the Dutch gunlaw forbids such things. All we can do is keeping it in good shape. We're thinking about sandblasting in the wintertime. depends on the costs. Until then we derust en try to preserve it as good as we can. The distance to the salt water of the sea isn't good for the gun. Less than 300 Feet. 24/7 outside in salt air. I'll try to send a coup[le of pictures to your facebookaccount.
