The guy's point about castles being dreary isn't even remotely accurate. Castles were commonly coated in white so that they looked nice and they were decorated on the inside. People back then liked color.

Your channel might be small, but the quality of your videos is high, good job mate. And about the video, the medieval times are the most interesting in my opinion and i like to learn about it, specially because it helps me to improve my narration for my tabletop RPG games, but it's unfortunate that there are videos with so much misconceptions around, thanks for clarifying it. Also, i think i heard you saying in one of you For Honor livestreams that you're a history teacher, is that right or have i misheard it?

It's just the literally age-old tale of disingenious myths being repeated by ignorant people without academic knowledge to incorrectly downplay achievements of the past not made by themselves. Simply frustrating having to hear the conviction with which these are defended, again and again, to the disservice of everyone in past, present and future. But maybe I expect too much. Still, videos like yours might yet help to enlighten at least some of those willing to learn.

I don't remember peasants having arranged marriages - what, did they think everyone was nobility or something? Also I swear to God there should be a point about Medieval Medicine here as physicians were still using Galen's teachings which involved the anatomy on animals instead of humans due to a ban on studying human corpses, not to mention the whole Four Humors thing being extremely dangerous and an obvious cause of Sepsis EDIT: oh thank God at least he brought up the meds

Watching this video I think it might be a good idea to show some inventions that were created during the medieval ages, because people seem to think that it was only war all the time. For example, artisans went from lonely workers to guilds where one sword was worked on by ten people at least. I think discoveries on light (with the prism) and paints were also made. Anyway, it might be an interesting idea for a video (top non military inventions during the middle ages)

I for one am insulted by the castle argument the guy makes. Even older castles were and are a wonder for the eyes to behold, even if in MODERN times much of their original beauty has erroded from weather and use. But in a way they don't so much loose beauty, but what makes them beautiful changes. They evolve from a young and elegant castle free of wear and blemishes, to a testament to their construction and design to have survived for in many cases centuries if not millenia. In a poetic way being in some cases the only legacy left of its builders, and the many people that once called it home.

Do you think you could do a video on Judicial Duels/Trial By Combat during the Medieval Period at some point? I ask because it kind of relates to the point in this video about laws against rape not being so heavily enforced back then as they are today. It almost seems to me (and I'm probably very wrong to make this assumption), that one of the only ways someone might be able to achieve justice for the crime of rape was to demand trial by combat against the accused. As an example, I remember a very famous story about two knights who were best of friends until one of them raped the other one's wife, and when he refused to admit his guilt, the husband demanded trial by combat to avenge his wife's honor, and after a VERY long judicial duel between them, the husband was victorious, and everything that his former friend owned was awarded to him and his wife as compensation for the crime.

Not harsh? In Hungary with the first law book written under I Saint Stephen we had iterally a law that punish r*pe with death (with castrasion) and absolute wealth appropiation. If I know correctly it was a very similar law in the anglo-saxon common law as well. The only problem that it was and even it is with r*pe that it is very hard to make a case for it without vitnesses and even witht them it is pretty hard because anyone can lie.
@RavenKnightYT

You're correct. Most penalties for rape were harsh, but because it was difficult to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that rape took place, most leaders were hesitant to convict a man of it for fear of making a false conviction, and also because there was fewer ways of gaining physical evidence or witness testimony outside of the victim.
