I’m surprised you didn’t include tooth pain. It’s the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. It’s even worse when you can’t find a dentist that can figure out the problem. That happened to me, the pain started with the front tooth under my left nostril. Then it became a fiery pain throughout my entire mouth. I went to a dentist, she did X-rays and checked the teeth, nothing. When she told me she couldn’t tell what was wrong because I had no cavity I broke down crying. Went to another dentist, he did the same things, nothing. Third dentist couldn’t figure it out either. Went to a doctor because on top of the tooth pain I also had really bad sinus pressure. Got antibiotics and tooth pain gone. Same issue came up the following year. Went to the dentist, nothing wrong with my teeth, no cavities. This happened three years in a row. Tooth pain combined with runny nose, sore throat, sinus pressure. Doctor asks if it happens around the same times each year, yeah. Suggests allergy medicine… tooth pain gone. All that time I was freaking about my teeth it was allergies causing sinus pressure that caused the pain.

Yes! Tooth pain is horrible! I fell a few years ago & faceplanted into a landscaping boulder! I thought my teeth were OK b/c they tightened back up w/in a few days. 3 or 4 yrs later though they began breaking off in sharp shards. I didn't have insurance at the time so I lived w/ it for years. Splinters of teeth cutting my tongue before falling out, abcesses, difficulty eating. Apparently the impact caused micro-shattering to my entire set of teeth. No, wait a minute. My one remaining wisdom tooth is whole! Anyway those were a miserable few years!

I woke up in the middle of a surgical procedure once. The anesthesiologists managed to get me back under sedation pretty quickly, but for the few seconds I was awake, the pain was excruciating. I mentioned what happened to my doctor when I was in recovery, and he said that I was heard screaming outside the OR and all the way down the hallway. Waking up like that is a very rare occurrence. It was just one of those freak things. I have been known to be hard to sedate, so that probably didn't help.

Lovely to see Fibromyalgia on this list. I’ve been diagnosed for a very long time now, but that’s not all. There was PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome until I told a dr to just take everything out. IBS, and Lymphocytic Colitis, possibly Exocrine Pancreatic Deficiency. Migraines: two different types. Probably severe Chronic Fatigue syndrome, this can also add to pain and migraine issues. Dizziness and vertigo. Nausea…gotta love that one. Visceral Hypersensitivity. And I think that covers the physical chronic issues…oops, one more: tremors. There, now that covers it. I’m leaving out mental health issues and allergies and food intolerances. You want to know about pain? I think I’ve got you covered. 😉

Much of the physical issues can cause some of the mental health issues that can also be caused by the childhood onset PTSD, and you just get a viscous cycle that people who haven’t experienced these chronic illnesses just don’t really understand. Yeah, the insomnia sucks! But with chronic fatigue, the drs won’t give me anything to help me get to sleep. I’ve managed to put together a mix of meds and supplements for night that help me get to sleep. My sleep test showed that I wasn’t getting REM sleep and my oxygen levels were dropping too low. So I’m on oxygen when I sleep for whatever good it does. Sure helped when I got Covid pneumonia. I’ve been sleeping on a memory foam mattress for years and it’s helped. A wrap around body pillow has helped. A weighted blanket helps, but it does get pretty warm. Soft, very soft sleep clothes help. There are things that help, but there’s no cure for anything I have. Recently they’ve decided that Fibro and chronic fatigue are both autoimmune disorders. Well, thanks guys…the Lymphocytic Colitis is also autoimmune. I wonder what will be the next one to fall to the autoimmune axe.

@randalmayeux8880

Hi Mike! The worst pain I've ever had was a disc space infection. It developed between L4 and L5 in my back, starting 6 months after a bad car crash. I was no stranger to pain, but I never could have imagined anything could hurt so bad. Imagine a dentist drilling a tooth without anesthetic. Now multiply that by 1000 and send that pain through your legs and around your midsection. It is actually enough to make you scream at the top of your lungs, which I did. I've also been stung by a variety of wasps and hornets, including the White Faced Hornet. I currently suffer from severe lumber stenosis, fibromyalgia and a herniated disc. I'm surprised that abscessed tooth didn't make the list, as I have had 4 of them, and I assure you they're excruciating. I've had 2nd degree burns and, yes, they hurt pretty bad. A funny thing happened once when I was welding. I accidentally came into contact with some white hot metal and didn't know it until I stood up and felt something pulling at my side. The metal had burned through my shirt and into one of my ribs where it stuck. I never felt a thing! I guess it was so hot that it destroyed the nerves before they could send a pain signal. I've had several broken ribs and it's true that you can never quite get any rest because every time you take a breath, it hurts, especially if you try to breathe deeply. Another thing that hurts is the overreaction to opiate misuse. I don't advocate indiscriminate prescribing of strong pain meds, but there needs to be a way to get proper medication to people who really need it. Before the current "crisis" I was able to get medicine which enabled me to function more or less normally, and live a productive life. Now, despite over the last 5 or 6 years of participating in numerous pain management programs (which aren't cheap), with very limited improvement, I am no longer able to work and struggle to get by on a disability check. Because of the paranoia of my insurance provider the best they will do is codeine, and only 3 a day. Better than nothing, but not good enough. It's no wonder people are turning to Fentanyl and heroin, which due to their illegal nature is only pushing the death till higher.

@@Riverrockphotos Thanks! I'm still trying to find a place that will prescribe something like Suboxone. I was waiting on an appointment with a doctor who was treating a friend of mine who was on Suboxone. My friend gave me one of those little foil strips that you put under your tounge and it worked great, but his doctor got shut down for some reason. Now I'm thinking about maybe taking some heroin, going to a methadone clinic, testing positive and getting out on methadone or maybe Suboxone. It's worth a try, but still, you have to get up early every day, go to the clinic, pay $10 or so and repeat till the weekend when you get your take home. And if you miss a day, you have to start all over again. At least that's how it was with my brother. It was so much easier when I was on Oxycontin. Just 2 pills a day and you were good. At one point I was taken off Oxy and put on Fentanyl 3 day patches which also worked great, but with all of the paranoia about Fentanyl, I doubt they are prescribing them very often anymore. I'd gladly settle for Vicodin 10mg.

I suffered with the same thing for years. I was even taken to three brothers who were doctors who specialized in endometriosis by my Gynecologist. She performed two surgeries but my endometriosis was everywhere. It was out my uterus. It was on my bowels, pelvic tissue and can envelop the ovaries and fallopian tubes, Bladder, Cervix, Rectum, Intestines, Stomach (abdomen), Vagina or vulva and other places. She was shocked when she opened me up. She said in 20 years, she had never come across a case like mine. She personally drove me to Atlanta on her own time so I would get treated. I had surgery in Atlanta and it helped for about a year. Over the years I tried everything. Birth control, medication and injections. Nothing worked, so I got a hysterectomy. But for years I suffered in awful pain. Throwing up, running high fevers not being able to walk. I would go a few years without having a period but have the symptoms of one except for the period. Then I would have one for 2 weeks straight that was God awful. I couldn't even go to school. My family doctor couldn't figure out what was happening. He kept saying I had a cold, food poisoning, and the flu. Until one day I couldn't stand up. I was running a high fever and vomiting. I went to his office everyday for a week. I walked in and demanded he see me immediately. One of the nurses knew my mom & grandmother very well and knew I wouldn't come back in unless I was dying. She took me right back. Felt my forehead as I climbed up on the table. She touched my lower stomach and I nearly punched her in the head. She stopped the doctor in the hallway right before he was about to go into someone else's room. She said you will see her now instead. I heard them arguing. Couldn't hear it all but I heard her shout at him. Which was unheard of back then or even today. The doctor came in red in the face. I was short with him and said I'm not leaving until you really figured out what's wrong with. I've had the same symptoms all week but you've said cold, food poisoning or the flu. Figure it out now. The doctor looked embarrassed because I had never spoken that much in his office in all the years I had seen him. He asked me to lay back. He started touching my stomach and did a pelvic exam which I almost came off the table for. I knew right away something wasn't right he looked at me and then looked at his nurse. He said we will be right back. Next thing I knew I was being sent to a Gynecologist a friend had recommended a couple weeks back for immediate surgery. I had a cyst the size of a softball at about to rupture. Thank goodness I had been asking someone about a Gynecologist because I just knew my family doctor didn't know what he was doing. When I woke up I didn't know where I was and the doctors and nurses were all excited and freaking out trying to make me stop struggling and trying to break free from all the tubes and wires. What I couldn't know was there was a catheter inserted in my urethra and my thrashing had caused a small part of it to 'bend' (apparently it's a type of catheter once common but now rarely used because of things like this; I think it was a wire or something) and it was now stuck. By stuck I mean bent out of shape inside of my urethra and none of the medical staff present could get it out. They have to saw through your sternum and then wire it closed when the surgery is finished and just like with a broken rib, there is no ability to rest it and it hurts every time you breathe but you have no option other than to breathe and you have to get up and move but just getting into the sitting position from laying in bed is difficult due to the pain and how much you actually use your upper body when moving. But, the sooner you get up and moving after a surgery, the quicker the healing process goes. If you ever have to have open heart surgery, I highly recommend having a small pillow and holding it to your chest when changing positions. Helped me a lot.

I have had CRPS for half my life and it's horrible. The pain is so bad that if someone touches you , you can passout from the pain because I have had people touch me and I have hit the floor. No one understands what they can't see. I have had implants to help with the pain by using electricity and it helps decrease the pain.

I used to self harm by burning myself severely, so I know a fair bit about burns. The more serious full thickness (3rd degree) burns didn't hurt but the partial thickness (2nd degree ones did hurt a lot. The nurse explained that it's because in a full thickness burn, the nerves are destroyed, and that's why you don't feel pain. While they may not hurt, they are extremely prone to infections which cause a lot of pain and swelling in the infected area and I was actually hospitalised a few times due to severe infections and dehydration. If you have a full or partial thickness burn, especially if blisters have burst, and/or its bigger than the palm of the hand get it seen straightaway, I developed sepsis rapidly and could have died. I think that the worst pain I've had is probably needles in the vulva. I've had a few biopsies due to a skin condition called lichen sclerosus that caused me to develop precancerous cells and I've also had a bartholin abcess drained at A&E. They always give the anaesthetic via a needle and I cry every bloody time, they give me gas and air but it really doesn't do anything for the pain (though it does seem to reduce the anxiety). Yet the doctor wonders why I'm anxious when I go for appointments..... 🙄🥲

I've has CRPS for 5 years and it's getting no better and I'm at risk for it affecting me more. I don't hear about many people having it. And on top of 20 years of fibromyalgia, breaking ribs and most toes, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, having had a few strokes and a heart attack, chronic Cluster headaches, ect. it's hard to know what is causing what pain. It honestly becomes such a normal issue, you just live life the best you can.

The worst I've ever had was cervical spinal. Repeated one-handed lifting strain at work ended up pulling about half of my neck vertebrae out of alignment, severely pinching the spinal cord running through. When I finally got to the ER after a shift, the [VERY good] doctor on call was highly concerned b/c of the astronomical height the pain had my blood pressure. Note to state/fed legislators: the biggest health insurance overhaul needed to forcing the work comp carriers to actually approve and cover the needs when their own contracted doctor has determined that, yes, this was work related/caused. Mostly, those carriers are uncaring greedy asshats who make work comp lawyers a necessity.

Great video Mike! I hope people learn from it! I know this turned out longer than I meant, but your list has several personal interest items that either I or loved ones experienced. Feel free to skim if you want! I have had lower back pain for at least 20 years. I can't stand for more than a minute or two without needing to sit down. Mine is due to a couple of things. Degenerative Disc Disease, some pinch nerves, others are bone on bone. Spinal Stenosis where the Spinal canal is narrowed, scoliosis, & severe arthritis. Sometimes it feels Iike an ice pick stabbing through to my kidney, but it ALWAYS aches, even when I'm sitting or lying down. It's bilateral, but the left is worse than the right. For pain tolerance comparison, I delivered two, large babies by natural child birth no problem!! This is disabling, literally. Another pain worse than childbirth is an unpassable kidney stone! Been there done that, too! Aha! It could be Post Trauamtic pain as well. I have fallen on my tailbone & jammed my spine at least 7 times. Think of jamming your finger or toe then imagine the same to your spine! Oh, & I have Fibromyalgia on top of all that! Oh, & yes, living in the country, I've had hornet stings & many yellow jackets, too! I'd say they feel lime laying your arm on a hot barbecue briquette & not being able to move from it! YJ's are slightly less severe, but not much!! I'm mildly allergic to YJ's. I run a fever, get a headache & nausea for 24 hours or so. Maybe even worse are Packsaddle stings. A stinging caterpillar. It's like having battery acid, or liquid fire, injected into your skin! 68 y/o & praise God I've never had a broken bone, though I've chipped bones in my fingers, likely toes as well. But, 6 months ago, I fell in the laundry room, another tailbone landing! However, on the way down, my side scraped the washing machine. No rib fracture, but almost as painful, I "bruised" the nerve that runs through the area. Pain from below my sternum wrapping around to my shoulder blade, even if i didn't move. The pain ranged from burning, stinging, & itching to sharp & stabbing. Sometimes awakening me. Still not completely healed but tolerable. As a nursing student, I observed a hip replacement. No wonder it's horribly painful! Sawing, chipping, hammering, the doc must have to go to carpentry school too! When my Dad had his heart attack, the only precursor was indigestion. I wasn't a nurse yet so I knew nothing. Mom had chest pain & nausea with her angina, so I would have expected that! He "drank" a whole bottle of Mylanta over the weekend & died on Monday. I'd like to post a PSA separately, even if it repeats what you have said, b/c this is important. If you must remove it, I understand. Knee pain. Getting that, too. I spent 2 years sleeping, & mostly living, on a bed that was only 8 inches off the floor. Very difficult for this "big gal" to get up from it. It wore on my knees, but only 5 years later am I feeling it. The bed might not have bothered them normally, but the groove that my kneecaps sit in is too shallow & I believe the extra force needed to get up exacerbated that & caused inflammation & thus arthritis. Going back to Post Surgical pain. I tore my rotator cuff 22 y/ago. My surgeon said that was the most painful recovery of any surgeries he does. I've had several surgeries & I agree with him! Remember, I had 2 natural deliveries of big babies! It's OK now, but it was so bad, I lay there & cried through the passive PT exercises! I'm 99.9% sure I've recently torn the other one & won't go to the doctor for it! I think that's it, as if that wasn't enough already! So, yeah, I KNOW chronic pain as well as acute pain. I want to throw in the towel, but God isn't through w/ me yet, so He won't let me! EDIT: Bone cancer may be 2nd in line to pancreatic for severity of pain. My Mom had lung, kidney, & spinal bone cancer. Her only complaint was back pain. She died approx 3 months after diagnosis. It metastasized to her brain quickly. Thankfully she was basically comatose the last few weeks, but she still felt the pain when I had to reposition her. She once had a foot nearly amputated by barbed wire in a mowing accident. I can't remember her EVER complaining!! So the bone cancer must have been horrendous.

These are all indeed very painful. I have had the arterial blood draw performed and yes. It was awful. But, I think the worst pain I've ever experienced was when I had the Shingles. I even ended up with nerve damage (PHN) that bothers me to this day. The rash went from under my left breast all the way around my left side to my spine in back. The pain was excruciating!! I had the Shingles in 2012 and still have problems to this day.

I've had numerous injuries. I had gaseous gangrene and now years later the nerve endings are growing back and pinching against each other, that is in my chest, shoulder and neck. Ive broken my rib a few times, but when a fib is broke in 2 or more places, its worse. Crushed my forearm, that hurt bad, 2nd to 4th degree burn on my lower leg. Passing kidney stones is also painful. I've got little to no cartilage in my right knee. That also hurts. Lower back I've crushed 3 discs, which hurts. And a phantom pain where my finger use to be. But the worse pain is of the soul.

Back in 1990 I had a work accident where I fell 40' to a concrete floor. I was lucky enough to have been knocked into a coma, preventing me from feeling the after-effects of the surgery. However, in 2013 - at the ripe old age of 43 - I had a heart attack. While extremely uncomfortable, I managed to ring my dad (who rang an ambulance), get myself dressed in a sweatsuit, lock up my flat and make my way downstairs to wait for the ambulance and my dad. Having the stent put in was done without anaesthetic as it was nowhere near as painful as the heart attack. I have since stopped smoking (5 years in April). A small side-note... It cost me $0 because I live in Australia!

Most pain? It's a toss-up. It would either have to be the cracked sternum and four broken ribs I sustained in an accident -- those were the most painful of the injuries in a fairly long list; and the time I had a disc replaced in my neck, and they had to go in through the FRONT of my neck...lifting my head off the pillow after surgery was an agony I hope to never experience again, and the residual pain lasted for several YEARS.

You need to look up endometriosis. I have it stage 4 and have had symptoms since I was 14 or 15. I spent 6 months in bed once with my brother helping me to the bathroom and back to bed. I’m 40 now and currently in a flair up. I haven’t had a flair up this bad in years. Oh, and getting a diagnoses is a nightmare because there are no tests for it. You have to do exploratory surgery for a for sure diagnosis. I spent 15 years being gas lit by doctors and my own mom. I spent last night sitting in a chair at 3am sweating so much my cloths were soaked and puking from the pain.
