I removed the thermostat,, drained and flushed out my cooling system with fresh water from my garden hose and performed a regular Blue Devil flush. Then I flushed with fresh water from garden hose and performed the Concentrated Blue Devil radiator flush. Then I flushed the cooling system with fresh water from my garden hose. Then I added a bottle of Blue Devil 8 cylinder simultaneously with a bottle of Blue Devil Pour N Go as directed for both. I let my car idle for 70 minutes and let it sit for 24 hours. Previously the car had the typical exhaust going through the coolant reservoir and overheating within a few miles but zero steam out the exhaust. The car also had a slight sputter every now and then. I installed a new factory temperature thermostat, checked the fluids and added fresh water from the garden hose. My car now runs perfectly fine with zero issues. My car is a beautiful, second owner 1998 Cadillac Eldorado with the 4.6 Northstar.

I’m barely a novice and I know to removed the thermostat if it wants you to “pour/use on a cold engine”. It’s impossible and pointless to pour into a cold engine if the thermostat is still in! It takes a while for it to open up and by then the engine is hot/warm. I ever understood that. None of these brands tell you to remove it and they call on only pour into a cold engine and I think I know why, but like you I believe it works best on a cool engine.

The motor was warm, I put it in the reservoir, and I did not let the car idle for 50 minutes. Nonetheless, the coolant leak stopped, and everything has been fine thus far. That is, a month later and a good 1000 miles later. Am I in for a big surprise for not adding Blue Devil correctly or am I lucky?

This is a quote from bdp........The BlueDevil Head Gasket Sealer only reacts to heat one time (one heat cycle). After the 50 minute idle and the vehicle cools, the product will not continue to react or continue to seal. Yes, the Pour-N-Go Head Gasket Sealer would be able to treat warped/cracked heads and a leaking block as well. Thank you! So obviously that is not true? You did multiple heat cycles......and from the looks of it, it started working much later when you left the cap off. How is that so when they claim it only reacts to heat once?

YOU DID IT WRONG!! I run "Poor mans's Garage" (also known as my broke ass fixing all my junk cars). you can not just pour it in there like that AND you have to do 2 other things. Compression test to see which cylinder is leaking so you can remove spark from it so it won't blow the sealant back out before it can adhere to the leak AND remove the thermostat so it will circulate BEFORE it starts to "solidify". Try that AGAIN with that car and it will work. I have done same thing you did and when I called BD they said try that which I did and it works. They can't tell people to remove Thermostats on bottle because too many idiots out there.

Almost all Ford 3.8 liter V6 develop headgasket leaks around 90,000 miles. It was a design flaw. It usually occurs on the right cylinder side. The replacement gaskets were an improvement but not a perfect fix. A real bitch to replace the gaskets due to everything you need to remove and the heads are aluminum and will need surfacing. Really hurt Ford's relationship with customers. Are you sure that stuff is for headgaskets and not just head and blick cracks?
