Shake The Future youtube channel just put out some videos detailing where I've observed as well is better to use silicon carbide crucibles due to the Susceptor capabilities to super heat if I understand correctly then coupled with the insulating kiln that is his latest design I'm guessing will be most effective design that I've observed that's most cost effective. Might be more experimental for the smelting, though amazing looking that appears to work for the melting and casting.

Six minutes in, and I’m still trying to figure out what they are smelting. Litharge is apparently some type of lead. I’m gonna give up and try to find another video related to what I searched for.

Yes, litharge is red lead oxide. Just an interesting variation on standard smelting.

@@paulmanhart4481 The gold is ADSORBED on the resin at binding sires. The resin was used to EXTRACT the gold from solutions that dissolve it. Yes , very interesting Keith , iv'e known about using the microwave as a kiln for several years but never tried it , and i just threw out a working one the other day now i'm thinking maybe i should have kept it 😂. I am a bit disappointed in my tabletop kiln , the wire fused the other day and it's virtually brand new . Had to order two new coils couldn't believe it . That flux you used was that Chapman flux plus litharge , Chapman flux is , Borax 40%, Soda ash 20%, Silica sand 20% , Manganese dioxide 20% , and then you add the lead Oxide ( litharge )was that it ? Anyway great demo well done . My project has had an upset , we had a flood go through our house , destroying carpets and furniture , never mind , it appears you are feeling better after your op , good to see that , cheers Keith , 👍✌✅

Very sorry to hear about the water damage. If I was there I could help you fix it, as I have done it before. Not sure if that was standard chapman's or a special blend to soak up the microwaves. We will experiment more. I had something similar happen to my kiln and should be fixing it this week. I'll get the video up and maybe it will help you. I think the main thing is more staples on the element to keep it from slumping.

I've been following the Shake The Future youtube channel regarding the melting metal for casting and had no idea someone is doing sintering of 3D printed metals. Just found this page regarding the smelting. Was aware of the glass and ceramics work and of course my field of more experience the synthetic chemistry using microwaves.
