@@delvinrodriguez3341 It is a Major Cresswell arrangement as far as I am aware, written for the 2005 Queen’s Birthday Parade.

@@MilitaryBandsEverywhere I got this info from the British Marches channel, and it said composed by J. Hughes and under Arr. By D. W. Cresswell. So I was slightly confused but, Since I saw J. Hughes I thought he was the Original composer, and we usually give credit to the composer of a piece of music. As he or she was the creator. Not the arranger. Many Thanks!

Aren’t our servicemen just great. I just absolutely love the spectacle they present - so smart, so precise, so disciplined. Thank God for this standard - such a contrast to this crazy, undisciplined, out of control world we now find around us.

However, I agree that no one in the World can beat the Brits for sheer Pomp & Pageantry.

This is a Practice for Trooping the Colour. The 5 Bands of the Foot Guards start from Wellington Barracks & March up the Mall to Horse Guards Parade. Once they arrive there they form the Massed Band. Any Guards they lead to Horse Guards, form up as the Companies, there are 6 Companies. Once they finish their Practice, they March Back to Wellington Barracks, going up Horse Guards Avenue, turning on to Birdcage & Wellington Barracks is further along.

Forgive my ignorance but a cymbal player being very high rank seems odd. Obviously all are highly professional musicians but do the cymbals need a top man?

playing an instrument is secondary to being an officer-- or you thought being cymbalist was primary role in military?
@lftosh
Жыл бұрын
@@ardeladimwit My question did not involve an officer, who would be the Director of Music, but a very senior NCO (I think a warrant officer). I assume he would be the band sergeant major or the bandmaster. My question, borne out of my own ignorance, was why he would play the cymbals, an apparently humble instrument but maybe not so.
@delvinrodriguez3341

All Percussionists in the Bands are trained to play Cymbals, Bass Drum, and Snare Drum, in this case the Bandmaster (BM) of the Band of the Irish Guards has taken Cymbals, they regularly change Percussionists to the other two instruments like Bass Drum and Snare Drum. Really depends who's turn it is. The Band of the Coldstream Guards has had their Band Sergeant Major (BSM) take the Cymbals. Just because you're an NCO doesn't mean you won't play an instrument like Cymbals (which aren't humble), they require more knowledge than the Snare and Bass Drum as the Cymbalist has to memorize all of the marches, as Cymbalists don't have a lyre to hold sheet music. All instruments are an integral part of the Band.

You do realise this is a practise Session, right? You will also find the Guardsmen "Dress " Regularly on Parade. If you are talking about the Bands, they "Dress" Automatically when they stop, I don't know if you noticed or not, but they have to negotiate Traffic Islands, Narrow link Roads, the odd parked vehicle & Road Dividers, they have to split on corners because the Traffic Islands make it impossible to stay 5 Bands Wide, even 3/2 Wide is pushing it at the Birdcage/Horse Guard Ave Intersection. The Drill Standards on Parade are excellent for the Bands. They're Bloody Marvellous for the Guardsmen as well. The Spectators get a huge kick out of watching them Dress then eyes front with no command, it is impressive, like a ripple. Before picking on 200 odd Bandsmen & Corps of Drums, on their way back to Barracks, ask yourself how Bloody well you'd do coping with all that.
