Your video was the only one I found that showed the hidden front snap ring to get the planetary out… I should have known it was there to keep the front together but everyone else just showed taping on it or pulling it out by hand in their video

Great video. So if the planetary was wiped out, it could actually cause the truck to not move at all even in 2wd?

Can I drive a broken cover on tranfer case then trash it later? I'm thinking about keep putting oil on it every 100 miles.

How many miles on this transfer case? I just rebuilt mine with 318,000 miles and it was clean as can be. The chain was stretched, so I could have gotten away with a chain and sprockets, but at that mileage, I opted for new bearings and seals. Other internal parts showed no wear.

I'd have to look up the ticket to make sure but if my memory is right I believe it had around 240000 on it at time of rebuild

@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 Thank you. My rear seal had been leaking for years, so I had to add a quart of oil every 6 months. I guess this, more or less, was like changing the oil over time. The only bad thing I found in mine is that water had gotten into the seal on the shifter shaft and caused some rust and destroyed the outboard shifter shaft bearing. The water didn't get past the first bearing.

How about a video on converting a 2wd 4l80e to 4x4.....and changing the input shaft on a 4l60 transfer case so it’ll work on the new 4l80 4x4 transmission 😉 I’d watch that video 😁

I would check the shifter ability with it disconnected from tcase first. If it is in the tcase it could be a broken mode fork.

Hate to be the devils advocate here but when I do what you did I start with pressure washing it first. Nothing worse than working in oil mixed with metal filings and sand. I know the case gets steam cleaned but why just add disaster possibilities to the equation ?

Is in normal to have about 1/16” end play in the front output shaft? Snap rings are on both sides of the ball bearing, and on the chain sprocket. No thrust washers involved with this shaft. Thanks.
