I tried the camisole hanger. It doesn't work well, because the camisoles keep sliding to one side of the hanger, and then the hanger tips and sometimes falls right down. Instead, buy yourself a tie hanger. It works soooo well for this and they aren't that expensive.

I live in an apartment building that is over 50 years old. I have about 800 sq feet divided into living room, bedroom, galley kitchen and bathroom with ample closets. I had closet doors removed (The facility stored them) and installed invisible shelving in all the rooms. But I went one further than the video and installed a tension rod over my bathtub for drip drying clothes since most things do not require a dryer. There are 2 entrances to the galley kitchen so I also installed a set of shelves in the smaller door. I am too short to reach higher than the bottom shelf of my kitchen cabinets so I keep a collapsable stool every where there are high shelves and store seldom used items out of reach. enjoyed your video mostly because it reinforces stuff I already knew. 0

Good ideas but I’m not allowed to add or change much of anything in my 450 ft apartment. I found using dvd/CD WOOD SHELVES Useful in a corner where the refrigerator opens to the corner. Plus hanging shoe bag In closet & over back of bathroom door handles my shampoo, meds, cleaners etc. There is no counter space or useable wall space in the bathroom, but again I have foundered a wood Dvd Tower that works.

Good ideas but the only bugbear may be to have super high shelves with books or something on. It is a drag to have to get a huge ladder inside the house to reach them for something as at 4.30 on the video. (I don't even have cupboards anywhere above my bench being a small person... and most people just stick glasses or cups and plates in them anyway. Not that they are shown here). Good bathroom ideas there. In USA the houses are absolutely huge compared to my place so they are blessed to have all that room for things.... even spare corners and things like in the video.

@@sjwis ....well your place must be nice but yeah what a drag. I have to have a medium sized ladder to do jobs and even I cannot reach the lights and have to get my son to help but I would have to get the tall ladder from the garage and I am an oldie too and wouldn't dare venture up it too high, certainly not ceiling height here... yet my ceilings are not high as such. I couldn't reach the top shelf of the pantry here either. Not fun being a shorty like me with things like that! I have barely got a kitchen light at present as I can't be bothered dragging out the big ladder ha. Guess I will have to soon.

Had to pause this at mark 1:08 when they are talking about storing things under a bed!! It is a great idea, BUT a better idea for myself was to reuse an old water bed pedestal under my bed. To begin with I went from living in a huge modern modular constructed double wide mobile home with two living rooms, three bedrooms and two full baths, and years later ended up where I am now! The mobile home I am sort of "stuck in" is only a 12 foot by 60 foot single wide so space is at a premium!! My step son had a kind size water bed frame with a pedestal that had drawers built into it already. And he was getting rid of it, because he didn't have a mattress for it and his landlord refused to allow him to set it up! After a couple of quick measurements I realized my normal queen size box spring and mattress would fit on top of it fine without the sides or the head board on it (simply because it wouldn't fit in my current room in its original foot print) So I altered the pedestal to get rid of the "extra space" required to support the head board, and modified the plywood sheets (the normally support the waterbed mattress) to make it fit my queen box spring set up!! Because my master bed room NOW is so tiny I DO NOT have any room for a dresser so this became the perfect solution to my problem!! My master bedroom now, after all is only 10 feet deep, but 9 and a half feet wide (with the closet on one wall) anyhow, so a queen size bed barely fits into it anyhow realistically to start with!! I have to add that the bed frame pedestal I have has six dresser drawers in it, three on each side. Not the perfect solution for myself and my lady friend, BUT most of our other clothing is stored in the master bedroom closet and a second closet in our utility room. But it works for what we have and what we need it for, which we are both modest people without a lot of "unnecessary" things to start with!!

Best approach to cutting boards is to have a board that can be washed in the sink. That little tilt-bin is a cute way to hide the bin, but it does not provide much work-surface for cutting, and it is too low for the average-height person to comfortably work upon. BUT, that same design, with a bin and maybe a drawer added, might be a good place to store pet food and bowls.

Okay, but I reckon families will need their stuff if they are saving for a house. For example I have extra chairs right now and I will use them when I have more space - I won't waste money on a storage unit and it would cost me more to buy new ones when we move, so there's that.

@@FurnitureFan if you know you will absolutely have use for something, then keep it! but for example, if you have 4 identical hammers you can get rid of few. if you have clothes that are broken or way too small. if you have a kitchen appliance that is broken or you just never use it. we all have stuff that is never going to get used and they just take space that could be used otherwise. I'm not saying that you should toss everything but 100 items or whatever. just the stuff that you genuinely won't have any use.

I live in a relatively small home. Best tips I’ve gleaned are from the comments. Don’t have so much stuff. Otherwise, 1) I don’t have stairs, so I can’t make shelves under them. My sofa back is too high to place a narrow table behind it. Next time I go out buy a $5000 lounge suite I’ll get a lower one. In my open plan living-dining room there isn’t a single space to place a large mirror. We have a small one facing the front door. My kitchen has literally no space for a shelf. One wall is cupboards, refrigerator and oven and stove top. Then a door way, then sink and island bench, the the remaining wall isn’t, it is the entry into open plan kitchen and family room. Most of these ideas only fit a house or unit with small rooms each with four walls and small windows and doorways. No houses like this have been built in the last 40-50 years where I live.

Half the suggestions were floating shelves of some kind. You can use free scrap wood. Leftover paint or a sample size to decorate it.

@Kathy Delp...yeah but I have seen a few big mirrors in our local cheaper store but the surrounds could go tacky after a short time.

That huge mirror wasn't the best item. Better have a mirror less than half it's size, that you place on a very narrow (self made?) side table. If you make that a closed cupboard, you have extra storage place for a lot of items, like dvd's, books, candles, vases, etc. Some drawers at the top for the smaller stuff. Yep, I think of making some of those for myself as well.

You can if you use certain products to hang shelves like Command hooks. They have Floating Shelves that have small hardware that doesn't ruin the walls. You can also ask the Owner what you can put up, it may help them in the long run if they choose to keep them & reimburse you for the shelves.

Usually if you patch the holes when you move out and repaint your landlord won't care. The only ones I can see not being able go to do in a rental are the built in cabinets.

My landlord won't allow command strips, picture hooks etc, nothing allowed on the walls. She put it in the lease agreement.

@@catherinep2034 Wow! I'm sorry your landlord is a jerk. That's ridiculously restrictive. Does she require you to go outside before farting? Sheesh!

Amazon. They also have- if u are building or remodeling ur own home - more hidden storage. A floating shelf, where the bottom part opens. A round metalmcircle tgat u put at the top of ur door- mainky to hold $ or pills. A fake outlet cover that pulls down- room for $ or pills. Some if these might be from wish. Just search hidden places, hidden storage. N there will be a bunch if ideas

It sounds like this script was written buy a fifth grader. "Even though your bathroom may be small, keeping your items in order should be done."

ALOT OF WHAT THIS SHOES WILL NOT WORK WHEN YOU RENT!! A SMALL APARTMENT LANDLORDS DON'T WANT HOLES IN THEIR WALLS. I BUILT AN OVER THE DOOR SHELF THAT IS 25 1/2 INCHES LONG & 3 1/2 INCHES DEEP 4 SHELVES TO PUT CAT LITTER IN TALL SLENDER CONTAINERS & MY CLEANING SUPPLIES IT WORKS GREAT & SAVES SPACE. THE BOARDS I USED ARE THE CHEAP 1 X1'S SMALL METAL "L" BRACKETS & SCREWS. I ALSO PUT 2 SPRING LOADED CURTAIN RODS ON THE TOP OF MY SHOWER & PUT A THIN PANNEL BOARD 2 FOOT X 3 8 1/2 INCHES WIDE ON TOP TO PUT ALL MY PLASTIC ONTAINERS THAT I'M NOT USI=EING AT THE TIME ANYTHING THAT'S LIGHT CAN GO UP THERE. IT ALSO WORKS WELL & SAVES A LOT OF SPACE. IN MY PANTRY I PUT ALL MY CANNED GOODS EXTRA MUSTARD KATCHUP & SUCH INTO PLASTIC CONTAINERS SO I CAN PULL THEM OUT EASY TO SET ASIDE WHEN THEY COME TO SPRAY FOR BUGS EVERY 3 MONTHS. IT MAKES IT FAST & EASY TO GET EVERYTHING OUT OF MY PANTRY SAVING TIME. I DID THE SAME WITH ALL MY CABINETS EVERYTHING IS IN PLASTIC CONTAINERS FOR EASY REACH & PULL OUT.

I have the same issue you do, im thinking of getting boxes to put stuff in as I don't like my privacy invaded, as much as they snoop, im surprised they don't ask for the most recent bank statements, all my receipts and go trhough my underwear drawer. I'm not doing anything illegal either.

Yes you can. Do what Judge Judy says and fill the holes up with toothpaste before you leave! That's an idea that was around in my college days back in the sixties! We didn't have 3M hooks so we had tack holes and pin holes and nail holes everywhere and somebody came up with the bright idea of filling them in with toothpaste which hardens just like plaster! They're going to paint it anyway they're not concerned about white specks on the wall; they just don't want holes there!

ANOTHER GREAT HACK WHILE WATCHING DIY VIDEOS: HIT THE THREE LITTLE VERTICAL DOTS ON THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE VIDEO AND CHOOSE PLAYBACK SPEED OF 1.50 or EVEN 1.75. WHEN YOU FIND A HACK YOU LIKE, SLOW SPEED DOWN TO WATCH. This way, you don’t need to watch every single hack in detail when you don’t need to. Want to make sure you see everything or hear everything on a video? Change the speed to .75. :)

These are mainly good ideas as I rent a small apartment and have learnt over time what’s truly handy and what looked better in the shop! I noticed that the first tip about the glass bathroom shelf showed small metal piping around it. This is a very handy corral to stop items falling off. Mine is just flat, like the shelves shown in the very last tip. Things often fall onto the floor. IKEA makes a white wooden screw-in shelf designed to support pictures etc. I recommend one of those for anyone who wants a secure small barrier at the front of a storage shelf. They can be cut into smaller widths too.
