Thanks for the tour. The IC705 is a very complex radio and certainly well above my ability. YOu are lucky to have such steady hands ;-) I was feeling lucky to be able to replace the USB/antenna tuner connector board with the upgraded one. Take care! 73 de W8IJN

A fault with the first component in the chain! I wish I had that kind of luck! Excellent repair Peter. Not a big fan of these SDR transceivers due to the lack of serviceability. I prefer the old boat anchors ( Kenwoods in my case )and audio equipment for the relative ease of service and parts/donor rigs.

So good to find another excellent video Peter! As always, textbook methodical process to uncover fault and get a great result. You are a true gem and so valuable for your contributions on proper troubleshooting and repair. I sure wish I could get schematics for all electronics I encounter. It makes me a little jealous. I cannot understand how we have devolved into present day lack of service information for electronics. Anyway, a thousand thank you's for your willingness to share your most valuable time with us. You can also see the power out change from 5 watts to 10 at the right side of the PO meter when you switch power to external. Thanks for the look inside. I think this is one radio that if anything dies on me, it will go back to Icom for repair. I did install the USB-C board though but that didn't require complete disassembly.

Goo grief Peter that was some challenge to repair the fault. My first thought was a voltage spike which destroyed the filter. What did you find that caused the failure ? Did the OM alter the power out. Jeez looking at the compactness of the circuitry/components it was incredible how you manage that repair. I think I will stick with my Xeigu G-90 🥸 I would not purchase a modern rig at this stage. I believe the manufacturers nowadays are producing equipment which require board replacement instead of board repair. Great job Peter.
@TRXLab
Ай бұрын
Thank you. Most likely we'll never know what caused the fault..It is not that radios like this can't be fixed on component level, it is more that manufactures more and more support PCB swap only. My personal point of view is that it is the wrong way because we all need to be able to afford such a repair...

Wrong the fault was on the radio side of the filter not the supply
@davidcottee2808

I wonder about the USB connector. If it is able to supply 1A power through the port, then the 3.5A might be exceeded under constant Tx load. Might be even worse for the USB-C connector. And if charging is required as well with a flat battery. The filter might be under specified. Maybe the 7A version should have been used. Most likely though Icom have thought about this, and the current supply is limited through the USB port.
