Only got aware of this game recently by a comment from a fellow player on Mastodon. Love the mechanics. Simple to understand, but creating a fairly complex mechanic and story. Just did a small play while watching your video and just got killed by the DARK CLERIC in the chapel. Lovely 😁

Fantastic system!! Just a thought...You could have a hesitation roll for more than one enemy. If you kill an enemy with one blow, the remaining enemy has to beat a hesitation roll or miss a turn. Also it would be great if you come to a dead end you have an opportunity to search for secret doors - map permitting. If you succeed you find a door, but if you fail you find and trigger a trap! Stop people searching all the time. Just some thoughts. Keep up the great work

Hi, I really love your game! Backed it on Kickstarter for the HB + PB + cards + lair expansion (Can't wait to get my hands on these). My run on the playtest just ended today. I was able to manage to get to the 2nd dungeon level and went to town to buy and sell stuff before descending. Actually bought a pretty decent armor and had a dilemma if I should buy another armor piece but settled with 2 health potions instead due to budget restrictions (I could've sold my starting armor for this). Went through a couple of rooms on the 2nd level before getting into trouble in a barracks where I had to face a veteran and 2 warriors! It was pretty intense. I tried to mimic what you did since I also carried a mental whip scroll but my roll was very unlucky. I had to lose 1 HP for failing, it wasn't much but the 10 dmg could've turned things around. Had to quaff the 2 health potions during the fight and pretty much had bad rolls , while the warriors were hitting hard. I was able to take down a warrior but was eventually taken down with a flurry from the remaining warrior. Overall, it was a great experience. I would start another run later or tomorrow. Thank you so much for creating this game. Looking forward to more updates soon!

Toby, quite often you didn't roll to see whether doors were locked or not when discovering rooms. I'm assuming that this was an oversight (Fog of War/ Old Age etc.😄), rather than a rule that I've missed? Also, when you entered the stone room the description was "there are two people sitting there" but when you rolled of the two tables the results gave you 3 opponents. It might be better to change the table narrative in the room table to say "there are some people present" rather than put a number on it which might conflict with the table roll results.

Thanks for another playthrough video. These are helpful in learning at least the basic rules. It was interesting how there were more empty type rooms here than last time, but that's randomness for you. :) Some remarks, FWIW: you noted here that large rooms are 32+ squares and the rules I have (v0.92) say this, but the rules I have also say 6x6, which is 36 squares, so you might want to check the numbers here. A minor thing, but looking at some of the creature cards, the line breaks in their text doesn't always seem ideal to me. For example, with the Artisan, the interrupts end lines on the card with "-2" and "-1" where "damage: is by itself on the next line. Certainly understandable, but if there's enough room on the cards, you might "consider re-spacing some of the text so that (for example) a number isn't separated from its unit like this. I noticed that the coil of rope was listed on your character sheet as a large/heavy item. Since there are limited inventory slots for such items, does the game tell you which items are of this type? FWIW, on that MET1 table roll (1:23:17), the die hit your finger so you could have called interference and rolled again. :D The battles against multiple opponents shows why the cards are useful: it avoids having to flip pages during a single battle. I was thinking the book alone would suffice, and I'm sure it would, but I might have to consider the cards for the convenience they offer. About the Warrior's Flurry attack: I think of that as a series of quick, superficial attacks, not a single, heavy attack, so the damage should be lower IMO; whether d6 - 4 is too low though is debatable, I suppose. BTW, with multiple opponents, you get to choose which one you attack each round and can do so after your roll, correct? Also, it was nice to see how leaving the dungeon works. Although I haven't read all the rules, I did skim them and noticed this option was in there, so it's good to see an example of it. Minor edit in the rules: around 2:54:09, your Tavern Exploit result says, "The you may select..."; you probably just want "You may select..." Thanks for the video!

Just an added note about the minus signs… if you are using Word, switch those to non-breaking hyphens to keep them automatically with the numbers.

Does the scroll disappear after use? Can't you use spells more than once and get better at casting them as you level up? I love what you're doing. I've backed both Rad Zones and this as well. This, i think, is going to be my go to when I get everything in my hands.

Yeah the scrolls crumble when you use them...one time use I' afraid. I am going to be going inot magic in a biggere way for an expansion later in the year. I appreciate your support my friend...not long now!

I'm very interested in the game so far. I have a question about using scrolls. The version 95 rules says that a scroll is a success on doubles and fails the dice result in what shows in the dispel column. So a scroll only works if rolls doubles, a character has no precision so they can't change a number and it doesn't roll the dispel doubles? It seems like scrolls have an extremely low chance of succeeding. Thanks!

At lower levels it is harder but your Precision goes up as your levels go up. Some scrolls are more powerful and even harder to cast.

@@TobyLancaster_DR_Games Thanks! I read it again and I think I was getting precision and discipline confused. Bottom left of pg 28 on v0.97 says discipline can be used to shift dice when trying to cast a scroll. Thanks! :)

Maybe the dice set attack vs the dice set defense could be synced? In a way some enemies might have a natural defense against specific attacks. Like a 4 is blunt attack and they have a natural armor against blunt, negating that type, so their skin blocks the player 4s. Same for the player armor, some are better against piercing so maybe a claw/slash attack could be naturally easier to block. Don't know if this is considered already, just started watching the play session.

Please correct me if I'm missing something. but the combat doesn't really seems strange. For example in other games, you'll need to roll a 4+ to hit, however here you just need to roll a 4,3 for your pummel example, shift mechanic permitting also. Am I understanding right, that each attack just needs a specific roll, it's not "you have higher chance to hit cause of x y z factor"?

Yes, but as you get more skilled you get more manoeuvres and shift points making the shift to the required numbers easier.

@@TobyLancaster_DR_Games Thanks for the fast reply. Tried the playtest over the weekend. First room was a barracks with 2 guards and 2 veterans. My puny level 1 got quite the beat down and went to a fast grave. haha. One additional question I had was ideas for including races and classes or are there future plans for this? And I'm assuming that normal fantasy enemies will be in the lower levels like goblins, orcs, minotaurs? I would like to maybe use the system to solo through other rpg adventures, too.

so i was noticing something while generating your rooms i seem to think or recall you no using doors, in certain rooms cause they were to small or just couldn't go in specific directions. but i was baffled by this why couldn't you have like hidden door or magical doors or trap door that where in the floor kinda like stash room or something?

Small rooms I kind of see like extensions of corridors. But allowing this it prevents too many locked doors for example so the flow is easier and you don't get stuck. But I am looking at magical doors and such...we'll see. Thanks for the comment!

Not sure if it's been mentioned but do you get xp if you successfully cast a scroll just think you need some kind of reward maybe become proficient in casting scrolls/spells next time you find that spell but enjoying the system and these episodes so far.

For the scout 6-6 attack, setting it to D3 dmg makes no sense because he got a theoretical higher dmg with quick charge which are D6-2
