Good video. 2N7000 is one of those parts with a lot of uses!

Hey 'ZAP' .. I usually watch several vids to get the full explanation on devices, components etc... This one in particular, was helpful in explaining the parts I needed to know. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Great job explaining this device. Straight and to the point. I learned more in 8 minutes here than a 90 minute lecture in college. Keep up the great work!

That's hard to believe. You went to the wrong college if what you say is true.

College they spend years taking interesting topics and making them boring. I taught myself I knew the days subject and let the teacher do a review. There was no time to get it all done so I had the labs done before I arrived just had to fill in the numbers. Hand in the lab as I walked out of the class.

[2:20] the gate capacitance holds a charge it is a type of memory cell you have to bring the gate voltage to low or under gate threshold voltage to shut it off.

Hello, I have a question because I'm working using this 2n7000 but, showing datasheet Vgs(th) minimum is 0.8V. So, going under 0.8V, gate should start closing, but is not like that. Channel still be always open even connecting gate directly to ground. Have you got some tips for me to switch off correctly this mosfet? Thank you!

Yes you have to pull it high and pull it low. That's why an IRL540 can work in place of a TIP102 on a Bally /Stern Driver board. You have a 330 ohm resistor pulling down and a 120 ohm resistor pulling up to 3.3 volt . The IRLstands for Logic level threshold 2.0 volt an IRF has a threshold of 4.0 volt too high for our use. The Moffett can handle more current because a transistor will have 0.7 volt CE drop where a mosfet will have SD 0..918 ohm . Less power is turned into heat.

@@bountykiller91 2n7000 is a switch 0.5 Amp rated. .look on the data sheet . It is turned on at 4.0volt should make it 5.0 volt . Look at the gate threshold vrs Drain current. Get it down to 0.6volt it will be shut off. They damage easily it may be shorted, try another one.
