Cool video! I got a PS4 slim in December 2019 (yes, very late, I know) and a week later I got a 2TB Samsung SSD (same as yours, but 2TB) and installed it. Took me about half an hour total from removing the original 1TB HDD and installing the ssd. My boot times are significantly quicker and my GTA V loading times are about halved. Overall having the 2TB was the best thing I could do since the PS4 only has two USB ports and I always keep a keyboard plugged in, and a charger for my controllers. Admittedly I am worrying about the heat exposure for the SSD but after 5 months it runs just as solid as day one even though I play every day. 11/10 would recommend to anyone who can afford the price

One thing to keep in mind. If you're playing with friends with the default drive, you won't be able to load into any map until everyone does so it makes the upgrade worthless unless you're talking about solo gaming. This happens when people have ps5 games that are still on ps4 and there's people on both platforms in the same team.

A potential reason why horizon zero dawn loaded so much quicker compared to the rest is due to the high-speed cache on the SSD. Since it was a fresh install more of the game would have been still stored there. Loading another game and resetting would put all the games on a more natural playing field. Not saying it the video needs an update or anything but just an FYI.

@Jiggs224u

When you format the USB (Make sure it has nothing important on it, because it will be erased) make sure to format it with FAT32. Also You need to create two folders in all caps. Then you need to place the update file that you download into the correct folder. It's not too bad to do. If you want to backup and restore your saved games and data then you need an additional external USB drive with enough storage. You can do the backup under settings, then restore when you have the new hard drive installed with the new operating system.

For everyone reading this, look PS4 Pro SSD guides online as I've just learned that the PS4 Pros architecture/hardware can only make use of 220MB per second. So they fully recommend ONLY the entry level SSDs. They are already faster than what the PS4 Pro can make use of, so there's no need to spend extra on faster SSDs. They get their benefits on PC architecture/hardware. Definitely worth the £99 by the looks of things!

@Lina Morgana They wont be using SATA SSD but both the PS5 and Series X will be using NVME SSD so much more speed and bandwidth than regular so while like all computer parts will have revision, spec-wise it's pretty beefed up so it'll all depend on the software from here on out.
@Specialist7
4 жыл бұрын
@@outlawgmr Even if you're going SATA 2 vs SATA 3, going from HDD 5400/7200rpm to SSD will make a good difference. Check this video and others as well as reviews online of countless users shaving off a good amount of time off their loadtimes. It will also depend on the game as some games have their loadtimes embedded onto the loading screen as previous generation consoles have shown when replaced with SSDs. Not only does SSD reduces load times but it also reduces some noise and heat. Even some SSHD shows some benefits over a regular HDD as once loaded a few times on cache it will load a little bit faster. Now PS5 may be a different story as it will use NVME SSD as opposed to SATA SSD and then once developers stop hard coding loadtimes onto loading screens then it can load as fast as PC games #pcmasterrace but if you're not seeing the benefit of an SSD over an HDD on your PS4 then thats unfortunate. So to answer the previous question, is there much point when the PS5 is around the corner? Yes for better load times and enjoying your games faster. If its going to cost you an arm and a leg then no, its best to save up for the PS5 when it comes end of the year? also expect it to be priced slightly higher than last gens MSRP as the specs are slightly beefier... well.. by beefier the performance should be like last years AMD Zen 2 and NVME pushed by PCIE4, should be interesting though.

The reason for that is the lack of TRIM support. By overprovisioning with a larger drive you go longer before hitting write slow downs from write amplification and trimming. My ps is so slow right now and every few minutes/hours it tells me “the data is corrupted please restart your PlayStation”, do you think I have to replace my harddrive to fix this issue or is there other solutions to this problem?

try booting up in safe mode and rebuilding database. turn it completely off. press and hold the power button until you hear the 2nd beep. hardwire your controller and go to the 4th option I believe. rebuild data base might say it’ll take 3hrs but it’s usually a few minutes or so. that’s how long mine took on a ps4 with stock HDD. it sped up my ps4 by quite a bit. I recommend doing it at least once a week. hope it helps

GTA V has slow loads too, but the SSD technology was probably a lot more expensive at the time when I was playing it, before I switched to PC gaming.

I've found a way to use a NVME m.2 drive in the ps4. The load speeds are freaking insane. You can get the adaptor case that you can use an nvme drive on the inside, close it up, and it has the sata adaptors for the ps4.

@Hexatomb

Yes, it's safe and worth doing since it can cost less than $60 these days to get a new HD and reload the software. You can use an external HD to backup or if you pay for the plus you can just make sure all your saves are uploaded.

for a computer builder it is not woah cuz SSD doesn't have moving parts but hard disk drive have . Hard disk contains latency meaning any OS on it or console OS on it will be slow . SSD in other hand improve PC gaming or console . Funfact the PS4 console storage port contains SATA which is why u can use the hard disk on computer by formatting it

Hi, i have done this same mod to my ps4 1 year ago and the ps4 its improve so much. The best improve you can see with fast car game (like needforspeed) that every second load a part of map, the results its that with ssd those games havent anymore load limits, so the speeds car is higher and all the movement are fluid

Fun fact: an SSD is only noticeable in the PS4 Pro, which has SATA III with up to 600mb/s speed, while PS4 Fat and Slim only have SATA II, which caps at 300, there is almost no difference between HDD and SSD in those 2 models, same with PS3, an SSD only makes difference in a PS3 Super Slim, which has SATA III as well

I run a 480GB Kingston UV400 SSD on my PS3 and it boots up and loads games and huge maps insanely fast. I gotta do my PS4 PRO next. All my computers, external Hard Drives, and digital box/PVR are all SSD now. They are so cheap and I will NEVER write the entire drive to it's capacity ever. As for the life cycle being measured in hours or years is 100% wrong. The write capacity is the ONLY way to measure the lifespan of an SSD. My 1st edition Samsung EVO is 10 years old and insanely strong. I check it all the time. (Diagnostic scanning/testing).

Games that are downloaded in hard drive from online load 3 times as fast. Get a 2tb drive and store your favorite games. I did an ssd on ps4 the original version. It reduced load times of latest gran turismo by half.

You can actually put the update file on the new drive and not the reinstallation file? Im a bit surprised. Your video was lacking some information about loading the software. You did not indicate you need to go into safemode, I would have liked your video to also include how to load the file on a USB drive etc.etc. Would of been nice to see a complete video.

So I'm buying the evo it comes in 5 days trying to figure out should I Initialise my PS4 pro with the old HDD Then pull it out and once I install the Evo should I put it in safe mode and initialised or should I install software 1st

@@montoyanathan60 I would shut the PlayStation completely down. Unplug it remove the drive put in your new Drive. Then boot into safe mode and do reinstallation and of course have the reinstallation file from Sony ready to go and set up on your USB drive.
