This is the final part to the 2 x 72" belt grinder build. It is not perfect by any stretch but does the job. I will continue to improve it as i use it.
You have ended up with a whole lot of knowledge, AND a really useful machine! Thanks for taking the time to document it for us.

I'd say that you were successful!! Sure it's not perfect but you completed the build and gained a lot of knowledge.

How did you figure what size spring,and how much pressure to put on belt before it snaps

The tape on the adjustment wheel is a great simple solution. I have been planning to grind mine down but I won't be doing thst now and be using the tape. But now I'm also concerned that my treadmill motor wont do the job

Adrian train yea for me the tape was very easy and had worked well in the past, and works still. With the treadmill motor, I found the one I used didn't have enough power. Cheers for commenting!

Hi, the wheels are "urethane Wheels - Cast Centre" I believe they were designed for lifting equiptment. The place I got them don't sell them anymore but if you want a look at the place I got them see the link below (they came with berings in them too): www.wheelsplus.co.nz/page47.html

Hello! I made my own belt grinder as yours, but when i pushing the metal the paper goes to the left. Why? Any idea?

Hey, not really sure but at a guess I’d say maybe the back plate you’re pushing against isn’t perfectly square, so when u push on it it’ll walk over. Just a guess tho.

whats the thing you added on the center of the wheels to prevent the belt coming off??
@Lindz37

Hi, if you want a better idea of how it works watch part one and two, but effectively it is insulation tape to create a ridge in the centre of the wheels. Most other designs taper the wheels off either side to get the ridge. Hope this clarifies things for you.

it does! thank you sir. I basically just did the same, will know if it worked once my sander is finished.

Awesome mate, looking to build one of these myself. Where did you get the spring from? (I'm in NZ too)

I can't actually recall where I got it, I think it may have been a specialist shop. I'd just google "spring shop" for your area. Sorry I can't be of more help.
