Found that out one year ago (can prove it), for an unusual reason, the A6 C7 does not have this check valves but the S5 convertible has. As my pcv was bad i added those two valves. I would not say it a 100% fix, but like 85% -95% fix, When you engine is hot and you let it sit for 24 hours it may occasionally still rattle a bit. I bought them new. 85€ a piece

The B8.5 facelift models don't have them, B8's or cars with the earlier CAKA engines for example, do. Newer engines were fitted with plugs to eliminate any return oil at all. And if the chain tensioners themselves are worn, fitting these check return valves or the plugs will be unlikely to make it much better, if at all.
@XFC8800

@@sarcastixx74 Well i cannot speak for the option if you only add the return valves themselfs, but what i can tell you, as i got the latest tensioners installed it was still rattling occasionally, since i added the valves it is nearly gone completely.
@sarcastixx74

@@XFC8800 Really surprising to hear that new tensioners still gave the odd rattle, the whole idea of fitting uprated ones was to eliminate it completely. When the non return valves work properly it acts just as a full plug would on the return side of things (as in not allowing any oil to return back through). Glad to hear that it has nearly gone altogether for you, but personally I'd be worried about having any slap at all on brand new tensioners. For reference, my stage 2 2010 B8 has done 82k miles and has only a fraction of a second of rattle on startup, and only if it has been sitting for a few days or more. Safe driving and hopefully you have no more issues with it bud

It is completely normal/safe if you have any cold start chain rattle as long as it is under 2 seconds and doesn't happen on warm starts. Your car has a fraction of a second because you have these check Valves installed already.

If you have chain rattle during "cold" start in the mornings, replacing this part might help. But, if you hear chain rattle everytime you start your car, prepare for the chain replacement.

@@JC-io8pv I basically did everything I possibly could do in there except for new injectors and carbon cleaning. I replaced all coolant pipes in that area, cleaned/resealed injectors, and did a full coolant flush. If I was to do it again I would obviously do the PCV relocation, as well as replace the thermostat with the upgraded aluminum housing version from German Performance solutions. Also I would replace the water pump with an HD version with a metal impeller instead of a plastic one

Mine is a 2014 A7 155k. I have the valley opened currently as I’m swapping Pcv, thermo, water pump, and decarb. I do have plugs. Do I swap both plugs out with 2 of these check valves and if not which 1 do I swap? Btw. I’ve been watching your channel for a while now. I bough my a7 in 2017 and have done all of my maintenance and repairs so I feel like I know you now. 😂 I really appreciate you bro. @audic7owners - Thanks for this video!! Finally someone that I believe is actually on to the root cause of the issue. IMO, the tensioners in the engine are fine or at least have lots of life left, the problem is that oil is not getting to the tensioners in a timely fashion on cold start. Why do I say that? If I let my car cold start and idle, TC will rattle for 2-3 seconds and then lightly rattle on and off for a minute or more. However, if I just shut off the ignition and restart the car, all rattle is gone, immediately. This implies is something about the cold start cycle and not a problem with the tensioners at all. Also, higher levels of oil in the engine, such as being a quart high, eliminate cold start rattle almost completely for my 2010 C6 3.0T. I'be be interested in this check valve fix or in plugging these altogether as I believe others may have done. Do you happen to know if this design is similar in the 2010 3.0T (C6) as well?
@AudiC7Owners
Жыл бұрын
I'm unsure about the C6 models, but you should have time option to add them if they aren't there already. Be careful filling your oil too high. This will put stress on your engine components and seals
