I last ran this Tich 30 years ago at Walton park and completed 20 laps (5 miles) none stop. On this video the track was very slippery and only completed half a mile none stop as I could not keep a head of the bigger engines.

Nick Carton I'm actually blown away with this is never realise a locomotive so small could actual pull a human. What is the gauges at the club ? I though it was 5" and 7". And is this engine about the same as a gauge one ?
@markturner4219

the gauges are 5 and 3n half inch. This 'Tich' is 3 n half inch gauge. The late Mr Pritchard of St Mellons MES had an excellent example which he always was very generous in allowing me to drive, both at the club and at the short track in his garden. As a 12 year old I felt like a King. He also let me drive his beautiful old Maid of Kent. I credit the St Mellons MES with keeping me on the straight and narrow during my teens as it occupied all my free time and didn't cost a penny.

Fantastic video! I'm currently working out when I want to order my castings for Tich. I just have to find time to build it.

Saw this video again and noticed I had commented previously. Finally got started on my Tich build some 5 years later. Haha.

A great Performer but the Micro- Locomotive needs a bit more adhesive weight to aviod slipping. Your little one is very well constructed and wants to run the hell out of its little Boiler.A good one !

Along time ago now but was it easy to manage round the track as in with topping up water and coal? Would it be a good starter engine or to fiddly? Cheers

That's a very small engine there, and I must say I like it a lot. Just how small can a live steam locomotive be and still be ridden behind? Have to admit it'd be nice if I could ride along with my gauge 1 engines, but I don't think the wheel bearings are designed to cope with the loads involved, nevermind having the actual grunt to pick up said loads in the first place.

I think maybe 2.5" is commonly smallest ridable gauge IIRC.Better to go bigger IMHO, smaller engines even harder to build and 5" or 71/4" 7 1/2" are much better for actual loads, sure 3.5" can pull a load, but not much more than a driver.Good 5" locos can pull over a ton on scale max gradients.Some smaller 3.5" stuff isnt even designed to pull a driver, just running models, my friend has a wee -0-4-0 tank engine thats like this,just a basic non tubed boiler running say 10-15psi max.Its a nice little engine, i have to take it to my club one day and give it a run!

It’s not much bigger than an Accucraft “Emma”! I’d like to ride behind, but I don’t think the plastic crossties would support an almost 200 lb. man.

this is the only other one besides mine I,ve seen running well !even if it is in uk, same color too! , I built weight into mine , the smokebox is a bronze sugar mill bearing about 12mm thick rebated each end , heavy plate running boards and tanks , the large boiler version with slip ec, is the best imho I think someone put it on utube for the qsmee track and tent a few months back
