I made this video for people who are wondering how a 9.9 will move this size boat. In this particular model, top speed with one person is 26km/h; with another passenger it's the same. the boat weighs 89km/196lbs without the bench seats.
I will note that I purchased from Kaygee boats in Edmonton, AB and the warranty issue I had was dealt with immediately.
The boat has long, flat tube ends in the back which all but eliminate bow rise when getting on plane as can be seen in the video. With all my gear at the back, the bow barely comes up. It also takes very little engine power to get up on step as you can hear from the video. With gear and fuel tank at the front, there is basically no bow rise and the boat will plane as slow as 12-13km/h (8mph).
The down side to this is that at high speed and with a light driver, the tube ends appear to push up too much and push the bow lower into the water, increasing resistance. I have to put everything in the back of the boat to get the best planing performance. You can see the splash coming up towards the front of the tubes - my previous experience is that at high speed only the very rear of the tubes and the keel are in the water, and spray only comes off the back of the tubes, even with a passenger at the front. The upside is that stability must be improved by having more of the keel in the water. It's also possible that with a heavier motor, this problem would go away. my motor only weighs 33.5kg/74lbs.
The flat tube ends seem to give the boat more stability in rough water. It doesn't pitch up or down as much when going fast through chop as the old inflatable I had before, which had cone-shaped tubes.
Build quality and features on these boats are both very good. There is a lot of extra fabric added to the bottom and transom areas as reinforcement. Of note: the tubes have a double fabric layer on the bottom, the tubes are glued to the transom with the standard brackets plus an extra layer of fabric, and the transom is 38mm/1.5in thick. The center rub strake is double wide, and there is a length of rub strake on the bottom of the tube ends. All of this results in a hefty 196lb weight for this boat. There are lots of D-rings all around, the grab line goes all the way to the front, and there is another grab line on the inside of the tubes as can be seen in the vid.
I'll put more info and videos up after I use the boat more over the summer.
