3:45 Take a zip-tie, pass it through the hole in the bolt and then through the winch-hook. With it being tight it will prevent it from unscrewing. For the other shackles, and any other bolt or nut you don't want vibrating off, use loc-tite. They make one for bolts that aren't supposed to come off and another formula for bolts that do get removed from time to time. It'll really save you a lot of grief.

Here is a cheap easy mod to add - D-rings use a zip tie through that small screwdriver hole and wrap it around on the D-ring itself. It will keep the pin from vibrating out.

I did this on my back shackles, I wasn't expecting they would come out so easily on the new Hyperlinks considering the price and then needing to add a zip tie - guess I was wrong lol.

I'm a heavy tow truck operator I use these clevises/ D rings all the time. To use these properly, you tighten them down and use tools to remove the pin. The clevises/ D rings/ shackles get there strength when closed correctly.

Travis is correct here, we generally advise to turn back 1/4 rotation but I would use soft shackles whenever possible and a closed or standard winch hook.

2:49 Those pins should have a safety wire or a zapstrap securing them to the shackle. 3:25 maybe if you had a safety wire or ziptie securing the pin you would still have it? I was at an event with my FJ Cruiser in Nevada a few years ago. A fellow off roader saw my shackles and suggested I secure them with a safety wire or ziptie. I ignored him. I am whipping down a two lane highway in the middle of no where in Nevada and I hear a weird sound, sounded like my tire ran over something on the road, I look in my mirror and there goes my shackle bouncing down the highway. I learned my lesson right quick that day. Now my shackles are secured with a ziptie.

Screw type shackle pins are meant to be tightened. Run it snug with your fingers, then use a screwdriver or crescent wrench and give it another 1/4-1/2 turn. They won’t come loose or get bound up that way. They should always be tight when being used or mounting them to bumpers. You can also use a piece of any kind of wire and run through the pin hole to secure it from loosening. If you don’t want to deal with that, get some clip-style shackles from a tractor supply store

So if you do a lot of wheeling where the branches are knocking your lights about,where are you limb risers to prevent that? You need to look into getting a good set of limb risers that actually function and aren't just there for looks.
@Casey250
4 жыл бұрын
They dont work that well. They do ok for the occasional large branch you want to pass over your roof but for the average shorter stuff they are fairly ineffective in my experience.
@4schitzangiggles
4 жыл бұрын
@@Casey250 would it be possible to use shorter risers that are closer to the light you're trying to protect? Or a metal triangle on the mount to keep the branches from getting to the light?

@@4schitzangiggles I think im just going to remove them and get a metal window frame guard made that goes up the A pillar. Similar to what would mount to a limb riser but just to protect the window frame. With my other lights and cyclone led lights facing sideways and out, these lights don't do a lot for me.

DO NOT put that fuel tank in the truck. First the fumes can not only drive you nuts, but it will make you sick after while. You will get headaches, feel like you have to vomit, along with a general feeling of shit. Second it’s super dangerous, if a fire breaks out it will kill you before you can respond. Third I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure it’s illegal. So for your own safety don’t put that tank in the truck. Oh btw for your shackles get some lock nut shackles for the bumper, you can find them thru tow truck accessories outlets. For the winch pin, back it off a quarter turn when using it, when your not using it, put it in your truck.

There are onboard fuel tanks that are safe to carry around. I don't know if I will carry any extra fuel in the new EcoDiesel though. Thx for the tip on the pins.
@vinmatrix76
4 жыл бұрын
Casey 250 my response about fuel tanks was more specific to the roto packs, or any simple gas can from say auto zone. It also wasn’t directed at diesel tanks. Just for basic knowledge I’d like to explain. Diesel is far less hazardous to carry in onboard fuel tanks because diesel fuel it self is very oily and has little to no fumes. In order to burn diesel you must actually burn the fuel it self. Which is more difficult to do. Gasoline on the other hand is far mor volatile. In order to burn gas you ignite the fumes, or vapors. This is why you can put a cigarette out in gasoline but you can’t light a lighter near gasoline. As for inboard fuel tanks, that’s still a sort of answer. For diesel a good Jerry can would probably be fine, providing the seals are good. I still wouldn’t do plastic unless it was fully secured, think race car fuel cell. But gas is a whole different monster. With gas you need several things to be truly safe, especially in an enclosed environment. You would need an external vent line for gas fumes and pressure to escape outside the truck, you would also need some kind of double, triple seal cap (gas always seems to find a way out), a secure mount with a ground strap (plastic tanks can build up static causing an explosion sliding or vibrating against truck bodies) and last but not least, any tank I’ve ever seen that was inboard legal has bladder or some other way to keep from bursting if the tank is damaged or deformed. The only time I’ve ever seen or dealt with anyone who chose to go this route was because they were involved with something very specialized. Race trucks, extreme cold or hot environments, armored vehicles, etc. for most people it’s just not worth the expense or the risk to do it. Oh and just an idea, but maybe mount a crossbar over your roof, and mount your roto’s, shovel, high lift, etc, there. If it’s built correctly you could have raised rails around the perimeter of the rack to protect your gear from tree strikes. That’s the way I did it on my h1. Completely eliminates accidental damage from backing or sliding into something. For me I even mounted the spare tire up there, which also helps with protecting the other gear. It also eliminates length on the truck, and departure angles. Good luck with your new diesel Jeep, it’s the Jeep they should have built 30yrs ago.
