I have been in law enforcement most of my life, saying this only to make a point. This man shared good tips. Awareness is the key to safety. Avoid putting yourself into potentially dangerous situations. If your instincts tell you something doesn’t feel right, listen. Avoid wherever or whatever it is, whether it’s a store, gas station or person etc. Don’t be a hero. I don’t care if you live at the range, people including well trained veteran Cops and for that matter Navy Seals, get killed in deadly confrontations. I tell my own family the same. That gun is to protect you and your loved ones as a last resort, not take down an active shooter. I encourage good folks to carry something for protection, but if you do, train and know your skill level. Be prepared for the physical and legal consequences if force must be used. Lastly, if force is used, hire an attorney immediately. Keep name and number handy. Do not provide statements to anyone without attorney being present. Innocent people defending themselves nowadays seem to end up getting prosecuted by radical political DA’s.

The thing is, "trust your feelings" about the scene could lead to racial tendencies. People are constantly being taught this is the wrong attitude. Great video! One minor objection based on personal experience: When I first started carrying, I did not have a round in the chamber. You are right; I did not have the confidence in my firearm nor in my abilities with it. I was concerned (perhaps irrationally so) that I would accidentally injure myself or others. So, for the few few months, I carried with an empty chamber--all the while building my confidence and working toward having one in the pipe. It wasn't the ideal situation, but I maintain that it was far better than not having a weapon at all. I have no regrets, though a million keyboard warriors harshly disagree with me. Now, I always have one chambered. Thank you for the very informative points in this video. They were all well-made.

I felt the same way after acquiring my first pistol. My P365 doesn't have a safety, so it was a few days before I felt safe having it loaded in my home, a couple weeks (and a few trips to the range) before I felt comfortable with having a round chambered in the house, and a few more weeks before I had the confidence and training to carry concealed with a round chambered. Growing in confidence & competence is a process. As long as you're showing proper respect for your firearm and handling it safely at all times, even though I feel strongly about being chambered at all times, it's better to have a gun unchambered than to not have one at all in a time of need.

Completely agree with all 3 mistakes, and I think the 4th mistake is to feel "safe" when carrying a weapon. A gun will give you a false sense of security and can get you into situations that you would be better off to walk away. That's a false comparison. It takes me at most 1/2 second to rack my slide. Your seatbelt comparison is more like having a round in the chamber after you're already shot. Military doctrine is to never have a round in the chamber unless one is on alert. Having a round in the chamber introduces the danger of a negligent discharge and that's why the Army, Airforce, Navy and Marines all adhere to the practice of carrying WITHOUT a round in the chamber. If a soldier is walking his post at night with his rifle slung over his shoulder, *that chamber will be empty unless the base is on alert.* If you are truly that scared that 1/2 second racking your slide is gonna wind up killing you, and so you are going to be walking around with a loaded pistol in your pocket, I want to know who you are so I can keep my distance from you.

Good advice . I went round and round with my buddy because he refused to carry or even see the benefit of condition 1 carry. That second or few seconds could get you killed if you need to pull and shoot. Tensed up situations can make racking your slide very difficult. A cop asked me if my gun was loaded once and if a round was chambered and seemed indignant that a civilian would carry in condition 1. In a life or death gun fight EVERYTHING is stacked against you. Train and train some more from the clearing clothes and drawing to fire just don't put holes in paper. Good channel, i think we live in the same area in Georgia.

I not only carry a extra mag, but also a small back up with an extra mag for it as well...and as for carrying with a round in the chamber, my first reach CC is safely carried that way and I can have a round off and be finding my aiming point before you can rack a slide and get on target...and that is because even with years on an Army pistol team and coaching for over 40 years, I still put fifty rounds through both pistols every 60 days...and one or two other pistols at the same time...I decided a long time ago that I did not want to be a statistic... Very good advice to keep one alive . It is amazing how many people don't carry extra ammo . That is one of the first questions when I talk to someone who says they carry. I also ask if they carry inside of their home and tell them that the moment I get out of bed I'm carrying . Love the ones who say they have guns hidden around the house . I point out that they probably won't have time to get it if their front door is kicked open .

Of course good luck making it to my door without me knowing your on the property well before. Now if they're a person that own's one or two weapons and stash's them in odd hard to get to hiding spots then I agree it would be better keeping it on you.

Many individuals find that just from the adrenaline rush and fear alone. they empty their firearm. What do you do if that happens and you find the threat isn’t disabled. Cops who are often better trained than civilians, still only have an average of an 18% hit ratio when firing under stress. You could have emptied your firearm, not hit a damn thing, STILL have an active threat, AND NO WAY OUT. It isn’t going to kill you to carry an extra magazine or two, or speed loader or two. You will be investigated by the police, the State attorney and the other persons family who hires an attorney to file suit against you. That just made sense to me.

An empty chamber is only a club that turns into a firearm in 1 second of fracking the slide. Terrible analogy. That being said on my duty Glock there is always one less in my magazine on duty because I chamber and unchamber the round every day. This is fantastic in that not only do I dry fire and function check it every day, but it's a little reminder that god forbid today I may have to use it and to never let my guard down. As for my XDM compact personal carry (far less likely I will ever need it) there is always 1 in the chamber and a loaded compact mag (14 rounds) accompanied by a loaded full size mag (19 rounds).

Survival On Purpose a gun is absolutely a weapon. By definition. However I believe when carrying, a person must consider themselves as the weapon and the gun as a tool. Meaning, they should only utilize that tool when absolutely necessary. Never relying on their gun provide any sort of pride or position. Flashing a gun at someone is illegal for a reason. I currently wear my MAGA hat everywhere but recently have decided not to wear it while carrying. I think I have a responsibility to myself and to the public to be as diligent as possible. I don’t want anyone to lose their life over the fact that I am carrying. Only when absolutely necessary should someone consider their gun. A complete last resort.

Darren Garriott Perfectly stated brother. I am a retired LEO and I live in a free carry state. I am amazed at how many times some crime or incident happens and there are a bunch of numbnuts standing around with their fingers up their butts. I have heard them say....."well, I usually carry a gun but didn't have it on me today". Well, they could have helped a situation or saved a life, etc.. I live in a state that will back you if you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. It's very pro gun here so I can't believe that more people don't carry guns all the time. With all the madness going on in the world, we need as many good guys carrying all day, everyday. Be safe brother. God Bless.

@@notsosilentmajority1 Yea I'm a KY boy and starting July 1st, the bill passed for constitutional carry goes into effect. I took the CCDW course a cpl yrs back and do tons of "youtube-ing" from many diff firearms channels so I try to frequent the range as much as possible working on basic mechanics that I've learned from them, plus lots of AR / pistol dry fire practice from concealment or low ready for target aquisition. When i say hours of KZitem, i mean it! From Pat McNamara to John Lovell to Lucas Botkin, i replay videos until i can almost repeat what they say haha. And it also amazes me that ppl are so reliant on the local LEOs. NO DISRESPECT BY THAT! I SIMPLY MEAN YOU GUYS CAN'T BE EVERYWHERE AT ONCE! And i would be honered to assist in any way i could if i was able. That being said, THANK YOU ALL for your service! Things would be even more apes**t without you and in a world gone left, we need more to do right. God bless you too, man.

What do you do if you have to go to a place with a no gun policy? Like if you have to stop by a school? Does a conceal carry permit allow you too? I'm looking into getting my first firearm, get some training, then try to get the CCW permit. But when is not an appropriate time to carry?

I'm a believer in a short barelled revolver regardless ...its safer to carry ready to go and in the right hands just as effective in a combat situation. carry several speed loaders

@@cray9868 Well said. I carry a revolver and a semi-auto. I am a retired LEO and a former MP. We were trained on revolvers and were taught that a revolver can lay in mud for a week and when you pick it up it will still fire. Modern firearms are fantastic and of course semi's give you more rounds but there is less to go wrong with a revolver, lol, it's a generational thing sometimes, lol. Our early semi's didn't give us that confidence initially so I carry both but your statement is spot on. I don't favor one over.

@@notsosilentmajority1 Yep! Old BJ (Barnaby Jones) always held 'em 'til the cops got there with his 4" model 10 and Fat Frank (Frank Cannon) could always stop the bad guys running away through a parking lot at 50 yds with a shot from his Colt .38 snubbie. Can't ask for any more!

For months I carried my Glock 43 without a round in the chamber leary of Glock's so called safe trigger. After watching several YT videos concerning the vital importance of carrying a round in the chamber, I decided to pick up my balls, load a chambered round, and repeat the mantra "but with the grace of god I go." I never turned back ever since.

1000x AMEN on training. You never rise above your training. You always fall to the level of your training. I thought I was a good shot (and I was) until I was put under stress (time, low light, moving target, elevated heartrate). Group size quadrupled.

training is overall the most important factor. When you do train with enough instructors and learn a lot eventually everything else gets simpler. You wont need to ask "do I really need a spare magazine" because you'll understand WHY a spare magazine is important. You won't feel worried about a round in the chamber, you'll feel strange without a round in the chamber.

1. Not having enough ammo and not carrying an extra magazine 2. Not carrying with one in the chamber. 3. Not investing in quality training.
