I knew the paramedic who treated Stephen Lawrence, the normal procedure then was to tilt the head back to check the airway was clear and ready to intubate. The attackers had forced marbles down his throat so as they tilted his head and tried to intubate it forced the marbles further down. They have changed that procedure because of that.

A controlled environment, and regime, often times is the only way certain, people can behave. Being told when to eat, when to shower, when to exercise, etc, and knowing that they are being watched, and monitored, at every corner, leads to good behaviour. However, that good behaviour, can only be counted on while in that controlled environment. Once set free, and left to their own devices, this type of criminal will go back to doing what their sickness drives them to do. They will likely get away with it a bit longer, because they've learned from their mistakes, and will try their best, to not make those same mistakes, because they know the consequences, and do not want to go back to prison. Unless a lobotomy is performed, these types of criminals should never be allowed freedom, amongst the rest of the population of society.

The Stephen Lawrence murder case is one of those murder cases that had a profound impact on the UK. It's still talked about today. His mother is a peer in the House of Lords I believe. The second case reminds me strongly of a lot of cases from the 1920s to 1950s in the UK. Looking through newspaper archives online you can find inquests with open verdicts or people accused of murder being acquitted after it couldn't be determined if head injuries were the result of attacks or falling down. Double jeopardy was put in place to stop people being repeatedly tried for the same crime. Second case is a prime example. One way they got around double jeopardy in the past was in cases of multiple murder they charged the suspect with only one murder, & if acquitted, they could charge them with another. Rick Langley is undoubtedly guilty. It beggars belief that he can keep appealing

IIRC, there was police misconduct (bribery?) that caused evidence not to be examined in the Lawrence case. That was a huge factor in public opinion on this case (I think). I was surprised it wasn't mentioned in the video. I may be explaining it poorly, but I'm not convinced that the law would have changed if it were just about, "Look, we found new evidence that wasn't available at the original acquittal." This was about police suppressing evidence and/or witnesses from the start of the investigation. But I agree with your concerns about ignoring double jeopardy. It is crucial.

Each of these cases was crazy. I can't believe how complicated some of them got, with people being guilty, then not guilty, then guilty, then not etc. Amanda Knox got off light! This video brought up an interesting part of the arguments around double jeopardy that I hadn't really thought of before. In that, if there is new evidence, I think there absolutely should be a new trial. We shouldn't let people we know are guilty live 5, 10, 15 years out in the community before they are finally locked up because of the threat to prosecutors of double jeopardy and that they have to have a super strong case because if they get it wrong, the person walks free completely. Really interesting video. Great quality as always, thanks.

The FBI would need federal grounds to be tried by the feds. And as of today there is no federal law against murder, unless they get called in for assistance. But with less than 3 victims in one state or similar crimes in different states with a connection, there have only been a handful of times a single murder will has been tried successfully tried Federally and even in those, it’s been by a loophole.

Most states have their own bureaus, such as the GBI - Georgia Bureau of Investion, but I don’t even think they are federal.

Sometimes I'm tempted to break the law just so I can be sent to prison and have a chance to exact revenge on all the baby killers I can get my hands on. It's just not fair those poor babies suffer and die and their killers get 3 meals a day and a bed to sleep in with a whole play ground to work out in. That's more then they deserve.

Double jeopardy is an important right and just because there might be a case where you really want to try someone again doesn't make it right. It gives the government way too much power. These rights.. like Miranda rights, are there to protect YOUR rights. Otherwise the government can continue to harass citizens.

2nd case shows why double jeopardy is good. There is no reason to retry a case 3 damn times, especially with no new evidence. It honestly seems like the Crown just had it out for him

I’m sorry, but he willingly and actively confessed to killing that child and he was re-tried because there wasn’t one persons of color in the jury!!! Are you &:!;’ kidding me?!? What kind of disgusting person would take on his appeals case?!? See in cases like these where the killer confesses, I don’t think they should have a trial. Why? He confessed. He showed you the body. He told you how and why he did it. Case closed, go straight to jail. Oh and one more thing. Not guilty by reason of insanity is the most ridiculous plea ever. I absolutely hate that. Any person that is willing to kill someone else is crazy. Period. You’re insane if you think it’s ok to kill someone for any reason.

I can understand a retrial if there is significant evidence that comes forward (like photos or video of the guilty person committing the crime) but double jeopardy is a very important legal right. Anyone else find it weird that a judge instructed a jury on how to rule? I don’t know if that happens in the USA but I don’t understand what the point of having a jury is if the judge pretty much tells them what to do.
