If you find that odd, look up Frédéric Bourdin from France, pretending to be 13yo Nicholas Barclay. Barclay went missing in '94 & in '97 Bourdin, who was in his 20's, claimed that he was Barclay and was sold into prostitution. Here's where things get weird. Even though Bourdin looked nothing like Barclay, who has blond hair & blue eyes while Bourdin had brown hair & eyes, Bourdin claimed his kidnappers dyed his eyes & his hair naturally changed. And the family not only believed him but took him in & claimed this was their missing son. He lived with them for about 6mos when a private eye looked into it & found out who he really was. All along the family still claiming he was Barclay. When Bourdin was jailed the private eye questioned Bourdin how he was able to get away with it for so long. Bourdin replied because the family wanted me to be their son because the family was hiding a dark secret. He felt pretty sure the uncle killed Barclay and the family knew it. If Bourdin was their son then no more questions needed to be asked. Once the questions began again, the uncle committed suicide

The vending machine case reminds me a lot of the Chicago Tylenol murders that happened a couple years before. It was the same deal- tampering with random products, no contact with the police, and they suddenly stopped out of nowhere. Both parent companies responded with product packaging changes to reduce tampering, and both cases were cold from the first body. And yet, they don’t feel the same. Based on the evidence you provided, I would also guess the vending machine killer to be a woman targeting men. Women are more apt to use poison, they targeted male-heavy areas, used a male -targeted drink, and stopped immediately after a woman died. Plus, I feel like women in general would be less likely to drink a random thing they found. The Tylenol murders, on the other hand, have always felt more… targeted, I guess. My theory has long been that the poisoner used the mass murders to cover a specific murder- if you kill one person, the cops will be looking into who wants them dead. Kill some random people, then the person you want to die, then more random people- the cops are now looking for a sociopathic monster.
@RileyCullen1

That happened to Sue Snow with Excedrin. Bruce Nichols’ wife Stella Nichols, poisoned him. They ruled his death natural. So she had to tamper with 6 bottles & poison someone else so she could bring it about Bruce’s death. The Shinya Matsuoka case is one of the strangest I've ever heard of. The phone call from a Tokushima local who knew which school the daughter had attended was definitely just to find out how much longer the family would be in the area. If they were close enough to just know the school I would think Mrs. Matsuoka would have thought the voice was familiar, so it seems more like someone who was stalking the family... I hope some day they find out what happened to him.

Yeah, a strain is one thing... Back in Bootcamp in 94, I saw a guy's Achilles' snap... Strains plus dehydration plus not stretching or warming up before a 9 mile run... It was a fair distance, maybe 20 or 30 feet away, but it sounded like a .22 LR going off, and his face just suddenly went pale and he passed right out on the spot. I was told it was from the shock and pain, but... I don't know... Whatever. It wasn't cool or easy to see to say the least... AND we were all standing at attention, no dismissal or permission, so you just stand there, kind of eyeing the guy as he falls flat on his face, and you're dealing with that inner turmoil arguing between following the orders or "damn the training" because the guy obviously wasn't faking and needed help. You can't fake your calf suddenly balling up in the back of your knee while your ankle shrinks to a little peg! I stood there. Hell, I didn't know what the f**k to do anyway, and the Drill Instructors were on their way. Someone was already running his ass off for a phone to get a "Recruit Taxi" (ambulance) sent... All I could've done was add to making a pig's ass of the scene... Still wasn't easy to just stand there while it unfolded... waiting to even be told what to do. ;o)

Shinya's story makes me think that maybe the father wasn't expecting him to be so close behind him, and when he turned, his dad accidentally bumped him and he fell down the stairs. The dad would need to give the 2 year old to the mom before he could properly check on Shinya, who could've died too quickly to receive help. He might've disposed of the body in his terror, and made up the story of Shinya just "vanishing" on the fly. I don't believe he would've done this out of malice or bad intention, but people don't think clearly when something so horrible happens so quickly. It's often the case with accidental deaths that the ones "responsible" for it feel immense guilt and use that to motivate "search efforts", even though they know the truth of it. Assumedly, Shinya didn't make enough sound to alert anyone, and if someone had grabbed him that he'd already explicitly expressed fear for, he'd be screaming and kicking out of pure instinct and it wouldn't be a smooth affair. Anyone who's even laid eyes on a 4 year old knows this much. Falling down a flight of stone stairs and breaking your neck or falling unconscious, however... is a pretty quiet thing, especially for such a smol fry. :/ As for the mysterious woman calling... it would also explain why they'd know the number to the relatives' house and details about Shinya's sisters' class. If Shinya's dad asked them to call, gave them the information they'd need, it would make it seem more believable that Shinya was kidnapped rather than... well. It also seems really convenient that he knew he'd need to tape his relatives' phone, like he already knew such a call would be made to there. (Japanese police are infamous for doing poor/zero effort work in order to "close" a case or avoid tarnishing their reputation, so the lost tape is not surprising at all.) As for the sightings, people aren't always right, and it can be a case of "once you're aware of it, you see it everywhere".
@chutorokohada7039
Жыл бұрын
I don't think the story that the police lost the tape is true. In fact, there was a certain rumor about this tape, and I believe that the story that the police lost the tape was derived from this rumor. By the way, it was not Shinya's father who installed the recording device. The police set up a recording device in case the culprit calls.

My wife and I have lived in Tokyo for close to 7 years and feel very safe here. Still, that doesn't mean we let our guard down and become numb to our surroundings, nor implicitly trust every stranger we meet. We remember not too long ago when a psycho plowed his van into a crowd of people on a busy Akihabara street, got out and then started slashing and stabbing at his victims with a knife. Danger can lurk anywhere at any time.

Not to sound like I'm praising a monster but the vending murderer is an actual example of a smart serial killer. There are so many glorified accounts these days of "intelligent" serial killers that boil down to basically police being incompetent. This is different - someone who literally got away with it because they knew what they were doing and when to stop. To me, that is a million times more scary than anything else....

I still find it so strange that Japan - and many other countries - have a Statue of Limitations on offences as serious as murder. What's stopping an offender from committing a horrific crime, laying low until the time is passed, and hurting more people? There are several different meanings to the term “Yankee”. Much has to do with location. In the South (US), Yankee = a native or inhabitant of the northern U.S Outside the US, Yankee = a person who lives in, or is from, the US.

Regarding the missing boy Shinya, could it be possible someone stalking the family somehow coaxed the boy to descend back down the stairs as his family were entering the building before abducting him?
